Single User license

I like the product, but I am a bit disappointed that you have to buy a minimum of 5 licenses for the professional product.

Currently I am using wrike just for myself and I am very positive about the product.
I know that the product is actually intended for collaboration and works best when using it with a number of different users.

To my opinion it is a miss that you don't allow the purchase of single user licenses, because I think, even without the collaboration part, the product can be of great use for people who have to work with/manage a lot of different tasks (intended for themselves)
So now I am using the free version, but I am lacking features like creating dependencies of tasks, using the timeline, creating subtasks etc. which probably will end up in looking for another product for me, despite the fact that I like wrike a lot.

If you think there is an option which I missed, please let me know. If the opportunity is available to purchase a single user license I will be the first to buy it.

Hi Erwin, we do sell Wrike in 5 user buckets and it sounds like you know the different plans pretty well. If you do end up wanting more seats or to talk to someone on our sales team, let me know and I can help set up a call.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about the Free plan and potential best practices, let me know, happy to talk about it.

Hi Stephanie,

I think I wasn't clear enough in my post.
I am not requesting for 5 or more team member licensing, I am requesting for a 1-user license (which you don't offer).
Having read different posts about this subject I think it would be a good thing for your sales department to reconsider the decision to only offer a minimum of 5-user licences, because I know for a fact that quite a number of users who love your product are looking for an alternative of wrike now, just because of this reason.

Hi Erwin, yes, I completely understand and thank you for the clarification.

So conclusion is that sales is not going to think about offering the product as single user license?

Please confirm, so I (and with me others) will know what to do and start looking for a wrike alternative.

Hi Erwin, as of now we are not offering single user licenses and it is not on the roadmap to change that pricing structure (we do pay attention to the threads on this topic though and have internal discussions based on the requests).

While I agree with your concept, it needs to be known that "collaborative projects" are not always within one company.  I work closely with around 125 different photographers, videographers, clients, venues and more. Most of which only have one or two people that I work with directly.  So, I agree with HOW it is to be used, but you are punishing those that don't have that ability IN HOUSE.  I'm not going to pay for someone else, outside of my company to use it.  Hence why most creatives, entertainers and such, use Trello. You can purchase a simple single professional level product and then connect with other professionals that use it.  I don't understand this theory at all, only selling in groups of 5 at the least.

With other services that are already do that... Trello... and some thinking about doing it again... Asana... There is little reason for me to continue to use your free service when it doesn't serve my purpose.

That plus the fact that in all your responses, in this thread and others, I get the same "great idea!" but nothing more than that.

Guess I will be happy to give my money to someone else!

Same here... Currently using the free plan as it is just me in the company, but I would be highly interested in a 1-user license. Just had a call with one of your sales represenattives about this issue. I don't know how many request you get for the single license, but I really think that you are missing out on additional revenue on purpose just because you don't allow people to use your product as intended...

Still, awesome tool, got me to change from Trello, and again I want to emphasize that I'd be happy to pay for addional features in a 1-user license if you let me...😉

I'll chime in - I like Wrike but I think the 5-user minimum is a little crazy personally. I sit on several boards, and looking for a PM to handle complexities while having simplicity a whole non-tech / non-engineering company can leverage.

I am in the process of raising $10+ million, focusing on building out a team ties to strategic line items to hit my B-plans KPI's, etc... so while I can afford the 5-person plan; I find it a little off-putting while I am working on this by myself as I build out my team for this venture.

I am not sure who designed your client acquisition road-map, but capturing someone like me who will have a 30 to 50+ person company over the next 18 months with a 5-user minimum is a little blurry in my eyes.

Of course, emerging companies grow their PM seats under the Wrike umbrella may not be your target...

Philosophically, I prefer to go to one of your many competitors who has a more entrepreneur vision.

To bad, cool platform. I wish you well on your journey.

Joe

It's been a very discouraging experience for me with this product. I spent the past month investigating the Professional, then Business versions of Wrike. Our business has 6 employees, and I thought that checking it out was a good investment even though it represented a huge slice of the productivity of our organization for that period of time. We are a small consulting firm and our business has grown over 100% for each of the past two years. Expertise in our niche makes it hard to find people, so as the business grows we can only work harder That said, we still need to make every investment dollar count.

So imagine my surprise when I went to buy 6 licenses for Wrike Business and was told I would have to buy 10 licenses for the 6 of us. I pointed out that the pricing page on the website clearly states that the Business user licenses are $24.80 per user and that they are available in quantities from 5 to 200. There is nothing on that page to indicate "buckets of five" as Stephanie claims above. It wasn't until I got to the "checkout" that I ran into this nasty little surprise. What it boils down to is it would cost $41.33 per user per month, not $24.80 per user. The Wrike guy I chatted with about this issue insisted it's not a scam, but said nothing about getting the problem fixed so that others in my position don't waste their time like I did. Nice.

I agree with Joe that it's a cool platform. Too bad...

This is frustrating. You are definitely wasting many honest workers' time with your coy 24.80 per user advertisement. I wasted a week and half working with this platform, excited to maybe even upgrade my purchase. However there is no reason for an independent contractor like myself to use 5 licenses. It's your prerogative to limit the licenses to 5 users per package, but please change your website to stop people from experiencing this frustrating waste of valuable time.

One more vote for the single user license. I can use the free version to make my life easier. If you let me pay for a few bells and whistles, management would be interested.

You have to understand that these days it's not only 5 people starting 1 project - it's also individuals starting 5 projects and seeing which of those result in generating income.

I've been looking extensively at Wrike alternatives because of this very topic. Absolutely love Wrike, but cannot afford a 5 person licence, actually not even 1 person with the Rand Dollar exchange rate. Aesthetically, Wrike is tops. It just looks and feels professional, compared to ClickUp, Asana, etc. (Tried them all). But the 'no subtasks' on the free plan is impossible to get around.

Wow,

Just got to end of my trial period to find out I have to buy 5 licenses.    I'm a freelancer simply project managing myself - currently no need to add anybody.

Feel so disappointed that I have to leave this app.  It was feeling so good.

Hi Brett Johnson,

Thank you for sharing your feedback here, it's been shared with the Product team. In the meantime, I would recommend using folders and projects to collect tasks that would normally be in subtasks. This way, you will still be able to organize tasks in a similar way.

Hey James Bassingthwaighte,

It's possible to change your account from a trial account to a free one from your Settings without buying 5 licenses. Here's how -

  1. Go to Account Management
  2. Switch to the Subscription tab.
  3. Click "Purchase subscription".
  4. A new browser tab opens where you can select your team size. Choose: 5 Users.
  5. Once you do this, the link "Downgrade to Free plan" appears in the upper right-hand corner. Click the link.

If you have any other questions, be sure to let me know!

Same for me. Having custom fields and filtering by them is a killer feature, and I really want this. So I'd be happy to buy the business plan for my personal project management system. But 124$ for that is crazy!

Aaarrgh what is wrong with some people. Have you any idea how bad this looks. How can you possibly ignore something you customers have been requesting for 4 years. There is no development required, simply allowing single user professional licenses.

Not only do you clearly not listen to customer requests, you are cutting off a significant increase in revenue and customer numbers. Customers who would talk about you and recommend you.

I also can't find anything that has Kanban, task lists and a timeline that is affordable for a freelancer. There are millions of us out there. Why would you ignore us? Here take my money - you don't need to do anything to the product. I just don't want to pay for 4 empty seats.

If you want to see what affect considering freelancer army can have on your product check out Miro. Have a look at their freelancer package. They actually understand how the world works and collaborates.

I've just transferred all my projects to Wrike. But I now will be deleting my account and looking for something else.

Hi Luke Vincent, I'm sorry for the late reply here!

I've checked with the team - they do understand the need here and they will consider adding this option in their future planning. For now, it's not on the short-term roadmap.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else!

Same here.  I started a project on Wrike, liked the app, so invited other two team members and then came to know that I had to pay for 5 at least. I gave up doing the project on Wrike and switched to Asana. Such a pitty.

For other people who struggle with single-user license, Quire.io and ClickUp seem to have functionality very similar to Wrike, but their pricing policy is much more sensible.

I had to chime in here because I am in the same boat. I started using the system and found it worked well for us, but I only have 3 users.  I'm not willing to pay for additional empty seats.  Sorry.

and here is another more user who leaves you for other platforms better user-focused than profit-focused :)

I am working for the top 100 companies worldwide and dealing with multi-million projects. I was wondering if this tool can be better than jira or trello, but with your billing strategy, you are just giving us no reason to preach for your cause!

You're so close with the Team plan.  Not sure why you'd exclude features that are on the free plan with the team plan:

  • Folder Hierarchy
  • AI Recommended Tasks
  • AI Subtasks

And what seems like an innocuous feature like Custom Item Types. I understand al the other features as they're value is largely in larger teams with more complex portfolios.
