Request Forms
I am unsure how long ago the change happened.
Once a request form is filled out in Wrike, instead of being taken to the task with the "Shared with me" folder/tasks on the left of the window, you are meant with the screen below. Is it possible to change that back as navigating back to the workspace is a bit of a paint. Clicking on "Open request" directs you to the desktop app which our team doesn't use.

You're correct that this is a newer setting, and I will pass on your feedback about it to our Product team.
One thing I can recommend is changing the Desctop settings so that the links don't open in the app: you can go to Apps & Integrations (by clicking on your profile picture), then click on Wrike for Windows & Mac, then go to app settings and uncheck the box next to "Open Wrike links in the desktop app" and then save changes:
That way, the links will not open in the Desktop app 👍 Please let me know if that helps!
