[Status: Investigating 🕵️‍♀️] Automation Actions: Date Fields

It would be amazing if an automation action could be added to update Start Dates and End Dates. For example, we have tasks that need to be done annually, based on the completed date. Example:

Trigger: When status has remained unchanged for 9 months

Condition: Status is a Completed status group

Action 1: Update Due Date to Completed Date + 12 months

Action 2: Update Status to Review Needed

There are many other times this would be helpful like if a status is changed to Delayed, Due Date extends by 2 weeks.

Hi Lynn Graham,

it's a strange idea for me to change tasks that are marked as completed into active again. Why don't you use recurring tasks for this? If you have to do the same tasks more often, it still remains every time a new task. I think it's totally confusing and messy if you would reactivate completed tasks for something like this.

Florian Kislich Hello,

One of the main challenges we have to work around in Wrike is that a majority of the people in our account are collaborators, which means they cannot manage their own tasks beyond the basics (status, comments, etc.). We have several governance processes that utilize an annual review cycle that include task-specific information in the description. We need to have a running record for each task, so recurrent tasks would hinder this. Additionally, we need to be able to see how often items in governance need updates off-cycle (more than the annual review cycle). Lastly, the folder also acts as a repository, all items must be available to view at any given time.

I am open to suggestions about this process; however, being able to change due dates as an automation action has other helpful implications beyond this one scenario.

Yes, Please add this to the automation actions. I would also like the ability to change a date custom field. Especially based on duration or +5 days from creation date. This would help solve so many roadblocks! We need dynamic date automations. :)

This seems like an obvious one to should be included, especially for tracking and following up of various tasks. I added an upvote, hoping to see it move into investigating soon.

I agree! I have some tasks that are created automatically, and I would like it if I could automatically set a due date for X days after creation.

There have been several instances where date automation would be helpful, whether with the standard dates or custom field dates.  I upvote for this as well

I honestly don't know why this wasn't considered from the start - the start and due date for a task are one, if not the, primary attributes of a task so it's natural that one would want to be able to update that with an automation.

Throwing my support in on this one. We are using forms + conditional branching to start with a blueprint and then add custom item types as tasks. Would LOVE to be able to use automation to set that. Without it, we have to workaround by also making a Blueprint that is just one of our Custom Item Types and set dates there. Then add from the blueprint instead of directly from the custom item types.

Can't stress the need for adding date changes to automation rules! I was just trying to create one and noticed it was missing; luckily a colleague of mine shared this article with me as I was going to submit a product feedback idea for this very thing. This is so necessary and this type of functionality is one that other PM tools have as part of their basic automation actions. Would love to see this implemented in Wrike as a simple automation rule for this could eliminate a lot of manual work and can help us solve some other issues we are trying to find solutions for.
