[Status: Coming Soon...🕑] Dependencies in Table View

It would be super helpful to be able to see the dependencies in the table view.  The data is in the system, so why not consider adding it to the table view?

Hi Megan, I know this is important functionality for your team and I spoke with Mike, your Account Executive, to make sure he's aware this is important to your team and so that you two could talk through potential options together. In terms of implementing your request, sadly we can't implement everything, but I'm working on checking with a Project Manager to see if this is on our roadmap.

Any update on whether this is something that will get implemented soon? This keeps coming up at our discussions as a downside of using Wrike.

Hi Evan, thank you for posting here! I don't have a timeframe to share for this functionality, but we're continuing to track votes for this request and have shared this feedback with our Product Team. Thank you for weighing in on this!

Having the ability in change and view task dependencies in the table view would allow my team to manage all their projects in Wrike.

Surely you all did some benchmarking of other Project Management software
while building Wrike....
Did you notice that every other such tool, like MS Project & SmartSheet  have this (very basic) functionality?
They have it because it's necessary (not a 'nice to have').

I'm a new (paying) user and now having a very hard time taking Wrike seriously
since I've noticed this (and the default sort on the Table View not
being date based!).

Jamie, thank you for commenting here! I understand that this is important for your team, as well as others, which is why we really appreciate the feedback you share here. Each tool offers different functionality, and at Wrike we've focused on the Timeline View as the optimal place to view dependencies, but understanding how other teams need to view the same information in Table View is helpful. Discussions on the Community facilitate conversations with our Product Team, and provide us with real examples of how different teams could benefit from the implementation of certain features. Thank you for voting here to weigh in on the request, and for sharing your thoughts about it, it's great to hear what you think of this since it does help us learn about the popularity of requests on the Community.

Dependencies in table is a huge missing bit of functionality.  It's a big complaint among with my engineers more familiar with Microsoft Project.

Yes adding my views on this subject.  It is really inconvenient that you can only set dependencies in the timeline view.  It is actually quite fiddly to do.  This is basic project management functionality for software that does Gantt charts.  Frustrating.

New user and totally agree with the above comments - very fiddly and time consuming only to be able to build dependencies in the timeline view

Can you guys please offer at least read only dependency in Table View to start?  Our PMs have been using MS Project and this one feature seems to be the last hurdle in getting them to accept Wrike.

This is truly a needed feature.  I'm taking flack for Wrike being worse than Smartsheets.

Hi. Absolutely agree with the above comments. This 'feature' should be a must. Anyhow, I saw requests about this topic since begining of this year. Any updated info if this will be taken into consideration and planned time schedule?

Hi all, thank you for your votes and comments on this topic! This functionality is something our Product team wants to make available. We don't yet have any more specific information but we'll make sure to update you here when we do know more.

Hi everyone! So excited to share the first step in Timeline and dependency improvements, which is the New Timeline View, you can enable it in Wrike Labs. This view includes a table on the left side of the Timeline, where you can find a column with an indication of dependencies. I know this thread is about bringing this to the Table View, but I'm eager to hear your feedback about this addition nonetheless. Hope you like it! :)

Nice work.  A few comments:

- Add the the ability to show task duration (and really all other columns available on Table view).

- With these changes there is almost complete overlap of Table and Timeline.  Is the intention to eliminate the Table view in favor of the combined version?

- Two finger drag on a the timeline (using a Mac trackpad) frequently "locks" and initiates a "page back" function.

- Create a button to toggle the table half between viewed and hidden

- Tasks with subtasks should still be identified with a "+" to indicate subtasks.   The task should be available to expand via bar in the timeline section.

- Even though dependencies are included on the table format, there still should be the ability to drag dependencies within the timeline half

- Include the range adjustment bar currently in Timeline

- Include the horizontal adjustment bar currently in Timeline

Thank you Anastasia - I'm excited, too. :)

In there trying it out now.

This is already SO MUCH BETTER than the old feature-set.

First hitch:

I am, however, confused: how is it sorting? how can I control it? I'm not sure what "cascade sorting" means, but I would have expected that clicking on it would sort such that tasks cascade into a visually-meaningful order based on their dates - but I'm not having that experience!

I'm finding dates are only used if there are also dependencies - which will commonly be the case, but not always.

Suggest that developers consider sorting of non-linked tasks based on their date (and indent level/sub-task relationship, too, of course)

And an addition to the Help page describing the Sorting logic & mechanisms would really help.

(I am relying on this: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005103269)

----

I concur with Brad, too, especially about Duration as a column, but I assume those refinements are 'coming soon' as the release details suggest.

Thanks for being so responsive everyone, I really appreciate how detailed your feedback is! I've sent all of this over to the Product Team working on this functionality. @Jamie, I've shared your feedback internally with my own team too, in regards to updating the Help Center article with some more info. We'll work on clarifying this logic!

@Zach, could you please try hard refreshing the Wrike Labs page? To do this:

  • On Windows: Ctrl+F5
  • On Mac: Cmd+Shift+R

Let me know how that goes!

Agreeing with the post above that "duration" is an important column to have access to in this view...

To be able to set dependencies would save so much time.  The new timeline is also a great new addition!

Hello and Happy 2018 to all. I noticed that this chain started a year ago, and that a simple function of being able to view dependencies on table view doesn't yet exist.   I agree with all of the above, having to move between table and timeline view isn't particularly convenient.

I noticed that there are now 38 votes to this function.

What is the average period of response?

How many votes are needed to get a response?

Cheers

Hi Sylvia, great to hear from you and happy 2018 to you too 🎊

In September our Product Team took the first steps in improving dependencies visibility by releasing a new Timeline update.

Our Product Team continue discussions about dependency enhancements across the entire Workspace and the votes and use cases posted here help with these internal discussions so thank you for contributing.

If and when I have more updates on this I'll be sure to post back here 👍

Hi Wrike Team,

My team is interested in seeing dependencies in the table view! It is now mid August (8 months after the last post) and this feature is still not available. What's the scoop?

Cheers.☺️

Hi Wrike Team

I totally agree with Tess.    It's a function that exists and therefore should be an easy fix?   We need to keep switching between the two tables as we don't use the Gantt chart - just the Gantt table view.

Cheers
