Dynamic Approvers Auto-assigned in Workflow

The need is for automatic assignment of approvers in a workflow step based on qualifying criteria defined in a custom field.  For example if approve is level 1 (L1) approvers are A & B users.  If L2, approvers are A, B, & C users, If L3 then approvers are C, D, & E users... and so forth.

The only work-around I've found is to hard code approvers within the workflow.  Then create copies of the workflow as needed to support all the approval scenarios.  I've tried multiple ways to accomplish this without success.  I've also created a workflow with different approval steps and hard coded the approvers in each step.

The ideal solution is to enable an approval to be created when a workflow status is met, then pull in approvers based on the value in a custom field.  That will allow a rules list of approvers to be created and maintained based on a classification of the task or project.

Using different workflows or multiple approval steps are not a viable solution as they prevent us from using the Board view... which is one of the best views for working with lite wrike users.  You either have lots of boards or end up with a single board with many, many status steps.

Hi Scott Powell, thank you for sharing this idea with us, it's definitely an interesting one and I have passed it on to our Product Team. Although it's currently not possible to start an approval through Automation, you can automatically assign the task to a specific user based on the value of a custom field:

Would this be an option for you?

Unfortunately, not.  The use case is for a documented approval.  Using a task would require a customized task object and that still won't achieve the support we are looking for.  I tried.  The need is for clean, documented approvals that do not require a huge amount of logic to setup and maintain.  Wrike is nearly there.  Adding conditional approvals will help Wrike in regulated industries.
