Increase Visibility of Certain Task Parameters in Boards view

I'd like to allow my team members get the most important information without opening the task while in Board View (or seeing them as subtasks for that matter).

As an example, our team uses the Github integration. When looking at the board view of our integration, it would be awesome if we could get directly linked to the Github PR without having to open the task.

As a corollary, we usually attach Pull Requests to tasks (as subtasks), and we'd love it if we could get the link to the PR just from the "short view" of the subtask (that is... while seeing the subtask from the parent task's main view).

I'm sure there are tons of other little things people might want to surface in the board view (or the subtask "short view"), like custom fields, or descriptions, or what have you.

Anyone else feeling this?

I think this is in the same vein, but is it possible (or would like it to be) to manage subtasks in the board view as well?

Hi Matt! I agree that this is related, and in fact our team is already looking into ways to implement subtask management in Boards. If there are certain aspects that would be especially helpful - feel free to share more details!

Awesome! So we're new to Wrike. My marketing team is going through the deployment process as we speak. I'm trying to set up our workflows, and we're attempting to do several things with:

  1. team scheduling (by individual)
  2. break down a task into substages of content/copy development and design, with a responsible party for each
  3. but also break down those substages into stages of revision, like draft 1, draft 2, etc. (I'm thinking we would do this with a workflow, hence the use of the boards)

Basically I want to see which draft we're on (workflow stage) for a subtask (copy or design) of a task (single deliverable, like a one-pager) that might be part of a project (a group of deliverables). So being able to move subtasks like copy or design through the various stages of a board workflow, but not just for one task. Want to see all subtasks for a folder or project on a single board, and move those through the stages.

Ha! I hope that makes sense. It's the first time I've actually written it out. Is there a way to do that now that I'm just not aware of? Or a better way to organize our work? Of course in all of this I'm trying not to make it too complicated for my team, and want to limit the areas where conversation happen and drafts of work are uploaded, ideally keeping it tied to the task, not the subtask.

It definitely does make sense Matt! Right now subtasks don't really work like that in Boards which makes it a great piece of feedback for our team. Thank you for taking the time to share that!

Somewhat related, I would like to be able to allow to view subtasks on the board view as well so we can take them through the workflow. Showing subtasks button similar to how we can show tasks from subfolders would be great.

Hi Zohar, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Board View! There was a similar suggestion in another post about Board View feedback recently, here it is in case you'd like to support the idea there as well: Board View.

I agree with the group here that we need the ability for Sub-Tasks to show on the board view.  With complicated tasks sometimes we have the work divvied up to several different team members.  We've had the main task completed will the subtasks are not completed yet.  If there are subtasks that aren't completed you shouldn't be able to complete the main task.

I've heard that there are requests in the Community to make Custom Fields visible in the Board view.

I wanted to put my vote in for that as well as follow any developments.

Thanks!

I would really like to be able to see subtasks on the board view, work around as dashboard works, but needs to be set for each project, which is not the fastest thing to do.

Subtasks in Board view is a must! In a world of agile development and kanban boards. This is a must.

Really, Board view is in a broken state right now.   When you add a subtask to a parent task by adding it in the parent task then it doesnt show on the board.  When you add a task and then add that existing task as a subtask, it shows up on the board.  Each of of these is a subtask at this point so the UI treats each subtask differently.  This is a confusing UI and makes it difficult to work with subtasks.  There is a simple UI solution. Add a button or menu item which is something like  "show task on board".  IE simply allow me to designate which tasks ( including Parents) I want to show on the board.

Tagging this one, hoping this is coming soon, I see it's been in the planning stages. Would love to be able to see the subtasks under their status in the board view.

To add to this chain, there are a few items being discussed here --one is the ability to view subtasks on the board which would be helpful and additionally is the ability to select the fields that display on the board for tasks.  This is especially important for us now that we enabled the resource management add-on as we would like to have the ability to view the effort field directly in the task panel itself without having to open the task. This would allow our team to have a clear picture during daily standups for how many hours are left as staff members are sharing their updates on assigned tasks.  Even better would be to update the effort right there without having to open the task.  Here is an example of how TFS has solved for this:
