[Status: Launched 🎉] Custom field changes logs

 I have a custom field, and somebody changes the value. I would like to see who changed and for what the value.
Option 1: I would like to see in the comments (like status changes)
Option 2: We read it from the database with an API

Do you any solution

Hi Török, thank you for contributing this idea to the Community! You're right, Custom Field changes aren't logged at the moment, but I can see how this would be a useful addition, and I'll share this post with any other users who support this request.

Definitely on my wishlist too.  We too need to track all changes to custom fields.

Agreed.  We track notes on progress updates in a custom field so high level comments can be displayed on report dashboards with the project status indicators.  We update the progress notes each month.  We don't use the comments for this because I don't want all comments showing up in the high level project status report.  So we use a custom field, but I can't see previous updates unless I dig through report snapshots.  It would be great to have the changes to this custom field show up in the log so you can go back and see previous notes.

As with forms filling out custom fields and custom fields getting more important it would really help to have some kind of history for custom fields. Now anybody can delete or change anything without leaving a trace.

Just about to post a new topic regarding this so glad I am able to chime in here.

I have a filter set to display items when a specific custom field checkbox is checked and for some reason, several of these items aren't checked! I'd like to see who unchecks them and when 😡

Hi Rob, I use checkbox Custom Fields too, and I can understand how it's easy to get all the wrong data shown if the boxes aren't checked correctly. Thanks for chiming in here! ðŸ™Œ

This is a much needed feature for us as well. We use custom fields to be able to track and report on information using a custom report, because the the description box is not a field that will show. 

An example why this is important for us: for automatic tasks from request forms that are for "leave requests", custom field are created for the start and end date of requested leave, there is no log to show if that date has been changed and by who

As an aside, for Enterprise accounts, you can run Audit Log Reports which shows some detail about Custom Fields like when they were created, modified or moved.

Our team has this same need! It would be helpful if we could see more detail about who/what/when an update occurred within a project or task. Today, we rely heavily on the data within projects and tasks for reporting purposes. If a custom field changes, we need to have more visibility into which changed and what it changed from. This is necessary for us to troubleshoot reporting issues or track changes.

For example: if an account number changes for a project from A111 to S999, we need the comments to state such in order for billing and order processing to happen smoothly

We definitely need to be able to track changes to custom fields!  We rely heavily on CRM OP IDs captured in the custom fields and if a change is made, we have no way of verifying who made the change, when, etc.  It would help us troubleshoot our reporting that is linked to our CRM data.

Hello!

We've recently had an issue which could have been easily identified and solved if Custom Fields would log the activaty. Please bring this feature, as it´s one of the basic things to have for tracking history and user activity. It´s great that it´s being investigated. Hope it changes to [Coming Soon...🕑]  soon! :D

Custom fields influence the priority of tasks in some of our projects. It would be extremely valuable to identify when these fields change, causing changes in priority.

It's great to be able to see when custom fields have been changed! Now the log should be in the stream (maybe an option to hide custom field changes similar to the option to only show comments) so we don't have to go to multiple places to see task history.

I also think that these events and others (status changes, etc.) should be available from the API, but that may be a different battle because the other events aren't there yet.

I agree that changes in custom fields should be visibble in the stream, having the possibility to switch on/off depending on the existing filter to shown only comments.
