I agree with all of the above - an exclusion filter would be really useful for dashboards.
We only have a few automations. - Notifications for tasks that are near due date or overdue- Moving tasks from Active to Completed folder (and other similar rules)- Updating parent tasks to Complet...
It depends on how I feel ;) I have different ways to see the same info, but I mainly use a personal dashboard similar to Aloi, and also use 'my to-do' list view. I never tried the calendar approach...

Lisa suggestion: It would be useful to add this feature to comments. We often get feedback in comments that need to be converted into tasks/subtasks.
