Examples of good status reports?

I'm interested in seeing some good examples of status reports that people use.  I find the out-of-the-box status report to be too minimalist and am would like to see how people are making them effective communications tools for both Wrike users and non-users.

Hey 👋

Sorry for the delay dropping by here.

From my experience, people want to use Status report updates in different ways so I have a few questions.

  • Are we looking for examples of Project or Task Status report - or both?
  • What is the primary information you need both internal and external people to see i.e. task name, status, or assignee or everything (often the info for both can be very different).
  • Generally, what's the goal of the report - what action does it lead to, if any?

Personally, I create two main reports for showing statuses.

One based on Projects, so I can quickly take a look at all my projects and see what Status they're currently in. I keep this very simple with only the project's name, planned finish date, owner, and status. See below example of what these usually look like.

The second is to show the Status of the tasks within these Projects. For this, I sometimes use the Status Report template ready to go, but often I want a little more customization in terms of showing and not showing some Custom Fields or other details.

Here's an example of what it usually looks like (obviously an example 😺)

I always group the report by 'Parent folder' for immediate context to what the task is achieving in terms of the next level up.

My main tip is not to try work on a Report that works for everything and everyone. Think; who needs a report and why, and the detail you need to capture becomes more simplified and focused. Even if that means creating two or three reports for each group of people, external, internal, executive level etc.

I hope this helped, I know it's pretty basic but I'm more than happy to go into more detail when I hear more about what you're looking to achieve.

In the meantime, if anyone could share what they're doing now, that can be super helpful to others here 👍
