What is the best way to convert a task into a subtask in board view?

Hi,

Our team manages multiple projects, and we mostly use the board view for day to day work.
It is common for team members to create a folder for a new sub-project, and fill it with tasks for that subproject.

So we would have something like this in the folder structure:
    * Main project folder
        * Task A
            * Subtask A1
            * Subtask A2
        * Task B
        * Folder for subproject C
            * Task C1
            * Task C2
            * Task C3

Because of how the board view works, when looking at the main project folder, this gets flattened to this board view:

    * Main project folder
        * Task A
            * Subtask A1
            * Subtask A2
        * Task B
        * Task C1
        * Task C2
        * Task C3

Task C# items get shuffled around by status, and we lose the context of "Task C" main task.

Here is what I know I can do:

  • Educate users on how to create tasks and subtasks "correctly" so they work with board view
  • Manually fix the relationships by creating a "task C" and manually inputting the C# items as subtasks
  • Manually fix the relationships by creating a "task C" and dragging and dropping the C# items into " Task C" in table (or list?) view

Here are my questions:

  1. Is there a way to create a task-subtask relationship by dragging and dropping in table view? if not, is this planned?
  2. Is there a way to configure the board view so that it aggregates tasks under folders or projects?
  3. Any other tips on how best to tackle this issue?

Thanks!

Hi Leav Oz-Ari, thank you for sharing this post with us! May I please ask you to share a screenshot of your view so we can better understand your case?

Regarding your questions:

1- Yes, if you drag a task and drop it into another one, the first task will become a subtask of the second one.

2- You can choose to display the location of your tasks in the Board View so all the users can see where they belong:

Looking forward to your reply!
