[Status: Backburner ⏳] Allow default values for fields
When creating a task in a project, it would be nice to be able to specify somewhere default values for certain fields. In particular, for me, 90% of the tasks I create in my projects will be assigned to me. Having to manually selected "assigned to ME" for each new task makes task entry cumbersome for 90% of my tasks. If I could make this field default to ME, then I could change it in the rare event that it is for someone else. It may be useful for other fields to have default values as well, such as having the start date default to today. Other users may have other use cases for defaults. When creating a custom field, allow it to contain a default value as well.
To take it one step further, it may be useful to be able to set defaults by project or folder. For example, my folder for the projects for my employee Fred, could be set to default to Fred. etc.
Hi Adrian, great idea here! Something I wanted to mention which is already possible, is choosing the default task type (backlogged or scheduled) and the default duration, this can be done from your Profile Settings.
This would be of huge value to our organization as well, specifically the ability to set defaults for entire projects and all related tasks and sub tasks that fall into it. We have projects with hundreds of tasks and thousands of sub tasks so this would be a huge time saver for us, we normally have templates worked out for these big projects and mass editing them without having to import info from excel first would help us speed up project admin work that needs to take place before projects officially start.
this will help us also. Because the first option is always the more frequent one
This is something I'm looking for. Wrike allows to add a extra field set to percentage which works great with tasks under a project. If users type the progress of each tasks in percentage in this field Wrike makes the math correctly and shows at the top of each project the whole advance of the project in percentage exactly as MS Project. HOWEVER, to work correctly, when a task is created, the user should type ZERO in this field (doing this Wrike makes the math correctly considering all tasks and its percentage) but guest what... no one type zero when a task is created. This is why I'm trying to set zero as default for this filed. As the task is progressing, the user will update the value.
This is also something we've been looking for especially for drop down columns which is common to have a default value.
This is something that just came up, we would like to have the ability to have a default value set in custom fields so that when we create reports there are no empty values for this field. I tried without success. Hoping this is something you are looking at in the near future.
Hey everyone, thanks for adding your votes and comments here 🙂 For now I don't have any news regarding this suggestion. I'll get back here if and when there's an update.

Thank you for the update.
I'd really like to se this feature land in wrike or its labs soon. Having the ability to set Default values for Task-Creation is very important to us.
Looks like this is possible now. I'm in one of our forms and with a dropdown field option, I can select a default.
We'd love to be able to set a default value for our custom columns as well. I see Samantha's post on 2/19/19 saying she was able to set a default, but I don't see this option for our dropdown fields. How can we set default values for our columns?
Adding a vote here as well. Definitely would like the assignee to default to myself for tasks I'm creating. (Though I can see a reason for a manager who creates tasks for a team to want the opposite—so maybe the option to "default assign to me" is an on/off configuration.)
Also wanting to set a default for a custom field that we've added to our Projects. The field was added at the topmost level, but some particular sub-projects will always be set the same. It'd be nice to choose a default state for tasks created in that Project.
Thanks!
I could really use this in Custom Fields. If you have a "type" you are representing in a field, and most of your tasks are this type by default, it's so much of a benefit to workflow if you don't have to manually adjust this with each and ever task. Especially as how Custom Fields are one of the worst functioning parts of the UX of Wrike in terms of ease of access:
- you can't see them in List View;
- you can't get to them easily with quick task creation;
- They aren't an integral part of the Task Details as they have to be toggled on and off, and there is awkward movement via the keyboard to get to them, unlike for example getting to the Description and just typing without having to take your fingers off the keyboard.
Thanks for listening!
Hi again Al Sape, thank you for sharing more feedback! Here, I'll also need to check with the team to see if there are plans for this in 2021; I'll get back to you here once I hear from them 👍

Ok Lisa that update would be appreciated. Sorry to be so blunt around here, but I remain disappointed in the lack of progress with just about all the requests I'm monitoring since I joined the forum over 3 yrs ago. If you guys actually delivered on at least this one, which seems truly a minor technical hurdle - but of course I can't be sure - that would be at least something. It is a very useful feature.
Thanks!
Is there an update to this request - Looks to be 3yrs old and as a new user, seems an obvious requirement....
Hi Paul Lomax, welcome to the Community!
There's no update from the Product team on this request, but could you please specify your feedback here - are you talking about default Custom Field values, or other task/project fields like date, assignee, etc?

68th upvote. Keeping the dream alive!
Welcome to the Community and thank you for adding your support here Andrew Gabriel (He/Him)🙌🏼
69th upvote. This seems like such a basic feature. I was surprised to find I couldn't do and that customers have been asking for it for five years.😒
Hi Edward Jorczyk, thank you for posting.
We’re sorry to read that you’re disappointed that this idea is a backburner for now. We’d love to be able to implement all of the suggestions that our customers share with us, but we have to prioritize certain requests over others based on various factors and considerations at the time. Although this isn’t currently planned, we will continue to pass on all of your feedback and insights here to our Product Team and of course, we will let you know if anything changes.
If there’s anything else we can help with please don’t hesitate to let us know 👍
we need to default custom fields across setups. Not having this makes it much harder to get teams to adopt wrike so it's pushing them to other tools. When will this be avail?
Hi Marie Doloc, thanks for checking in here and for sharing this feedback with us.
As Cansu mentioned above, there are no plans for this currently, but the team are keeping it on their radar and if anything changes we'll be sure to let you know. For more detail on how we work with Product feedback check out this Community post. If you'd like to speak to a Wrike representative to assist further with addressing this need, please do let us know and we'll be happy to arrange this.

Adding to the discussion. Custom Fields need default values that are assignable by custom item type as well.
IE: Default Value for "None" Custom Item type.
Default Value for "Custom 1" Custom Item type.
Default Value for "Custom 2" Custom Item type.
I'm being asked to use custom fields to flag custom item types because filtering by custom item types doesn't work correctly in all areas of Wrike, so defaults would help greatly.
Thanks a lot for adding your feedback Trey Moran, and welcome to the Community 👋
