[Status: Backburner ⌛️] Setting and locking start / end dates or duration

When setting the start date, end dates or duration of a task, we should have an option of locking any of the 3 parameters.

The app is always defaulting back to changing the start date and this is super counterproductive.

Per instance, If I need a delivery to be done by September, I know if takes 40 days to ship, wouldn't it be great to just enter 1/09/2018, 40 days and BOOM the app sets the date my stuff should ship ?

Thanks,

Added my vote to try to increase the upvotes here. This functionality is highly needed by my team. I'm going to encourage all of them to come over here and vote for this, too, in an effort to get this above 60 votes. 3 years of no progress seems very frustrating.

Matt Curtis  I totally agree! Let's get some more upvotes.

This thread will hit its 4-year anniversary in a couple weeks. Are you still looking to get more votes???  Looks pretty arrogant to me.

Please implement this, Wrike. Another annoying use case is say, I have a monthly task due the 20th of every month. I cannot align duration -- it defaults to one day. Very annoying.

Thanks for your feedback here, folks! I don't have an update from the team on this at the moment, which means this isn't in their plans currently, but we continue to pass on the feedback here. We'll let you know if we have any news on this in the future.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Adding to the list.

For us locking the duration is required.  We have tasks that take set amount of time, say 4 hours.  If another task runs long this task could get stretched across a weekend and duration gets changed to 3 days.  If we catch up the task that caused delay, the 4 hour task will not go back.  It will stay 3 days which trashes the project timeline.

This suggestion would be great for the use of projects as well. We have standard maintenance projects so being able to lock the time periods and let Wrike calculate it could help :)

Hi everyone!

Thank you all for your support and input on this suggestion and for getting 60+ upvotes. I wanted to share an update here to let you know that this suggestion's status has been updated to 'Backburner'.

I know this might not be the news you were hoping for, but for now, the team is focused on other priorities, so there is no scope to research this at the moment. That being said, the Product team is still interested in this idea and they're paying close attention to the feedback here with plans to review it in the future. We'll continue to share your feedback with the team and if there are any changes to this, we'll be sure to let you know.

Thank you for all of your contributions here 👍

Once again, Wrike fails to address feedback by many users on an important fundamental functionality. This thread started 4 years ago, and nothing has been done, and now we're told "nope, it's been officially backburnered". Yet, Wrike says they are "still interested in this idea". If they haven't done anything in 4 years, they obviously aren't that interested.

This seems to happen over and over on core functional features requested by users. I have been involved in a number of feedback items/requests related to lacking core features which most project management software provides, and every time Wrike decides not to address these items. It's unbelievable.

Each month we see new things in Wrike, which are mostly related to tweaks here and there, "nice to haves", or features that aren't critical, and yet core functionality continues to be ignored. It is aggravating to see what Wrike prioritizes over core functionality.

Completely agree with you, Jason. Very frustrating. Back to other tools for my team.

Just to do a follow up on my original post. I stopped using Wrike.

The support on core functionality is ridiculous, at best.

Good luck with your future endeavors.

Exactly. To Raphael Couture's point, Wrike loses customers because they do not put enough importance on core functionality that their competitors offer. We also may have to re-evaluate some of the other offerings if nothing changes at Wrike when it comes to core project management.

Hi folks. I totally understand that the update we've provided you with recently isn't what you'd like to hear here. As you may know, our team would love to be able to work on most of the Community suggestions, but they can't. We do have many ideas from this forum that have been implemented, but the team can't commit to working on all, or even most of them. At the same time, this forum and all the feedback that we receive from you really helps the team understand the needs, then they also take usage and other analytics into account as well as feedback from other channels. This creates a clearer picture of what to prioritize because the team always aims to work on updates that will have an impact on the majority of Wrike users.

I'd like to thank you again for your contributions here. This suggestion stays an active thread where you can continue to share feedback that will all be passed on to the team. We will let you know if anything changes here.

My company is using Wrike for product development timelines and a locking feature on dates and/or duration is key to creating our timeline. Please add this feature soon!

I agree with you Taylor Smith.  So many people want/need this control over dates and durations. It's a key feature that is lacking. I have again seen some nice updates to icons and user interface elements, but not to these functional requests. Are updated icons for workflows really that much more important than date and duration management?

This really needs to be added as a functionality in Wrike. Our project types demand a certain amount of time be spent on each phase of the project and not being able to lock in that duration is making the Gantt chart dependencies next useless for us. Looking at all the comments, this looks like something that people are desperately needing to continue to function using Wrike. Hope this makes it into the software soon or we might have to look elsewhere for something that is more versatile.
