Automation doesn't work with Recurring Tasks -- is there a workaround?
Hello, Wrike Community!
My art team works a remote hybrid schedule that rotates on a 3-week cycle. I created a series of recurring tasks for our daily morning touch-base that includes the roster of who is working onsite and who is working remote for that particular day. Recurring Tasks works perfectly for this -- keeping the weeks straight (we call them Blue, Green, and Gold weeks) and showing who's on deck on any given day. I keep three weeks populated in the meeting folder at all times so updates, announcements and important attachments can be added for future dates whenever they're available. (Each of the individual days shown below is its own recurring task, repeated once every three weeks.)
Just so that I wasn't spending a lot of time manually changing statuses on these tasks, I wrote a couple of Automations: The first looks at the due date of the next few tasks in the folder and if it's within the next 4 days, it changes the status from "Submitted" to "In Progress." This status change adds the task into a widget on each artist's Dashboard.
The second automation notes if the due date of an "In Progress" task has passed, and if so, the automation then changes the status to "Completed" and moves the task to the "Past Meetings" folder.
I thought this was all pretty clever -- until I realized that Automations don't work with Recurring Tasks. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. Then I had to change/delete a couple recurring tasks and as a result created two temporary individual non-recurring tasks before updating my workspace. The automation worked perfectly with the non-recurring tasks.
Short of doing the Recurring part or the Automation part manually, is there some workaround to get these two very helpful Wrike engines to work together? Something I'm missing? Thank you for any help you can throw my way! And please count this as my vote that Recurring Tasks and Automations should work together!
Hi Michelle, thank you for creating such a detailed post! I've asked our Support team to look into this, and I can see they are investigating the issue as recurring tasks should work with automation.
