Filter Tasks being in multiple Folders / having specified Tags
Having folders A and B and some tasks in A, some in B and some in A and B at the same time. Now I want to filter tasks being in folder A AND B.
When using folders like tags it is important to be able to filter tasks having multiple tags like Evernote can.
Hi Radovan! Thanks for sharing this here. I wanted to mention search filters, they won't work in all cases, but they'll at least let you filter for tasks that are tagged in two Folder locations. To use search filters to find tasks in Folder A and B:
When you're doing this, just make sure you apply the folder: search command before applying any other filters. From here you can go ahead and create a Dashboard widget, so that you can monitor tasks that are cross tagged in the selected locations, without having to continually apply filters. I know this isn't an exact fix for your situation, but hopefully it at least helps in cases when you need to filter for tasks tagged in two Folders.
Not being able to use advanced filtering with multiple AND/OR & NOT conditions is quite a pain. Any plan to enable such functionality?
Agree, being able to apply multiple folder search is very much needed. Ideally being able to create advanced searches similar to something like JIRA which does a great job of it.
Moreover if folders have spaces in it, you can't search those folders.
The work around is to duplicate folders, which leads to confusion and various problems.
Hi everyone! I wanted to thank you for sharing all of this valuable feedback about the search functionality. It's important to hear about the types of search parameters which would be useful for you, and it's great to see all of these fantastic ideas here.
@Owen, I have some good news :) It's possible to search for Folders with spaces in their names by using quotation marks in the search query. For example: folder:"Folder One". Hope this helps!
Looks like Wrike does in fact support multiple folder search, space delimitated.
`folder:Bug folder:"Mobile Platform"` and then clicking `Search within current folder` will give you the results you are looking for.
If you already have a folder search and go to add another, it will remove the previous one. Annoying but at least the functionality is there such that you can do the search multi folder search.
Be nice to add the folder search to the filter ui.
Owen, the search is still quite limited. You can't do custom searches with AND/OR & NOT conditions (and parentheses support). For example "(folder:A AND folder:B AND notin:C) OR folder:D".
Agree, all added filter are only using AND. Be nice to setup more complex queries like you've pointed out.
Honestly the process used here for 'Tagging' is a pain and limits the search and filter options available.
Why not just use a virtual folders system like everyone else does, its easier and more efficient to tag and search.
This system is so cumbersome.
I've just started looking at 'Wrike' and don't mind it, but this is a bit too much of a pain ,i'm considering looking elsewhere.
'Tags' are not only used to connect tasks with each other but to group them under a common category label, your system doesn't allow this.
What your system does is to effectively make copies of an existing task and paste it into other folders where it has an association with the tasks, or projects. I understand how this would be useful in relation to the individual projects, but it prevents the individual tasks being grouped together under a common category or label , making searching for data under these commonalities a task requiring excessive time , knowledge and skill, mot likely not available to the average user, unless of cause they are using your system for software development, in which case they will have the knowledge and skill , but i'm sure it will still be irritating.
The only way to have something similar would be to create a folder called 'Tags', populate it with new folders using Names that categorize the tasks.
Given how core to Wrike folders are, it was really surprising to me that this is not already possible in Wrike...
Another use case:
Really just want to emphasize what Blaž Dakskobler has already mentioned:
Wrike must allow us to do:
"custom searches with AND/OR & NOT conditions (and parentheses support)"
The ability to search within a folder is not good enough in the long run!
I'm very new to Wrike and I like the flexibility and the elegance of the folders/projects based model.
Anyway, I agree with most of the people contributing to this thread that the initial enthusiasm is greatly decreasing when you need to use tags effectively in the real world. Any suggestion to "flatten" the project structure sounds like a recommendation to don't use Wrike at its best.
Please, try to add filtering by tag in the standard filter panel. This would close the loop and make Wrike effectively ahead of any other similar systems. There already is part of this functionality using the "folder:XX" command in the search bar, it may be not so difficult to improve it a little bit 😀
Welcome to the Community Marco. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, we greatly appreciate it and our Product Team constantly review posts in the Community for feedback.
We appreciate this particular feedback around search commands. Our Product Team is already aware of this post so if/when I have any new information to share I'll post back 👍
Looking forward to hearing more from you here!
Other use case:
Structure:
+ Project_A
|----Subproject1
|----Subproject2
I want a operator that applies on children.
--> I want to be able to filter out tasks that are in Subproject1 and Subproject2 with something like "NOT_IN_CHILD_OF Project_A"
Thomas G, if I'm understanding you correctly, you just want to see tasks that are Project_A without any subfolders? If so, Wrike does this to a limited degree in the project/folder menu.
- Click on a Project_A in the sidebar
- Use "List" or "Board" view
- Click the "3 stacked dots" at the top right of the view
- Option "Hide Subfolders" or "View Subfolders"
This which will effectively filter out tasks that are or are not tagged with any subfolders of Project_A. That's about all it does though. Hope it helps!
