[From Wrike] Make a beeline for Baselines ๐Ÿ Now available in Gantt Charts (Wrike Labs)

It happens! Sometimes you finish your work a week before you planned to, and sometimes projects are delayed and you simply can't deliver on time. Analyzing these dates can help you plan your time better for next time, and Wrikeโ€™s Baseline Chart is a useful tool to achieve that.

Baselines help you compare a projectโ€™s originally planned VS current scheduled start and due dates.

Today, we announce a much anticipated product enhancement: Baselines are now available on the Gantt Chart ๐ŸŽบ

This is a beta feature, so please visit Wrike Labs to enable it if youโ€™re the account admin (or ask your admin to do that ASAP) and get back to us here - weโ€™re excited to hear your feedback ๐Ÿ™

Me too Trevor, makes a big difference when tracking performance and finding those items that are causing major delays.

You're a mechanical engineer so I know this is essential for you and your team. Are you using it during a project to make adjustments as things change, or are you using it as learnings for future project planning?

Wrike, this is a MASSIVE improvement, this has totally changed how our team is able to track our work. The snapshots work well to save key baselines, which we currently do at each weekly progress meeting. This makes the following week's updates very simple ("what changed vs. last week's baseline?")). Lots of time savings. One question - would you consider adding, in addition to the saved snapshots, a way to just scroll back on the baseline date to any date you want, even if you never took a snapshot? I would assume the data already exists if you have records of the task movements. This would be helpful as sometimes people forget to take baselines at the weekly meetings!!! Thanks again for an awesome feature!

@Mark Hi, thanks for reaching out here and sharing your feedback ๐Ÿ™‚ I thing that the Baseline Chart, which makes a part of the Analytics View, can help you - it compares a task's current scheduled start and end dates to start and end dates tasks had on the date you specify. Please check it out and let me know if that helped ๐Ÿ‘

This is great news. I have just switched it on in Labs, so will try it out. I hope there will be a way to show % complete on a gantt bar for tasks as well, with a roll-up % complete unto the whole project. This is a really important feature in project management and will greatly help in reporting and assessing work done v/s balance work required to complete the project. I hope this feature is in the near pipeline. ๐Ÿ™

Hi Walid, looking forward to hearing your feedback on this ๐Ÿ™Œ

As for the progress in Tasks and Projects: We're currently expecting a beta test to be released in the coming weeks for progress on projects. Keep an eye on the Brought to you by Wrike section for announcements.

As for progress on Tasks, it would be great to see your upvote for the idea here ๐Ÿ‘

It would be really helpful if we could have the baseline dates show in the table view with a calculation of the number of days of variation.ย  The charts are great but when we show clients where we are, we find that most like the table view the best!

@Lauren, thanks a lot for your feedback ๐Ÿ‘

The dates are shown on the table portion of the Gantt Chart as "Baseline Start" and "Baseline Due" columns.
Note that you have to make the โ€œBaseline Startโ€ and โ€œBaseline Dueโ€ columns visible first:

  • Click the gear icon on the table portion of Gantt Chart.
  • Check the boxes near โ€œBaseline Startโ€ and โ€œBaseline Dueโ€ columns.
  • Click anywhere outside the window to apply the changes.

Hope that helps ๐Ÿ™

@Lisa, I can see it there but it's is not a clean format because I can't completely hide the Gantt chart, and it also does not show up in exports.ย  The recommendation is to make those columns viewable also in the Table view and able to export.ย ย

Do we need to manually input the baseline dates into the 2 columns, or is there a way to auto-populate those date in the beginning of a project?ย

Hey Iris De Campos ๐Ÿ™‚ You can choose to either create a baseline from a current state or a particular date.

To create a current state Snapshot:

  • Select a folder or project from the folder tree.
  • Switch to the Gantt Chart.
  • Click โ€œSnapshotsโ€ from near the top of the view.
  • Select the โ€œFrom current stateโ€ option.
  • Enter a name for the Snapshot.
  • Check (or uncheck) the boxes for the following options as needed:
  • Show assignees names
  • Click โ€œAddโ€.

To create a Snapshot for a particular date:

  • Select a folder or project from the folder tree.
  • Switch to the Gantt Chart.
  • Click โ€œSnapshotsโ€ at the top of the view.
  • Select the โ€œFrom project historyโ€ option.
  • Next:
  • Select a date for the Snapshot.
  • Enter a name for the Snapshot.
  • Check (or uncheck) the boxes for โ€œShare via linkโ€ and โ€œShow assignees namesโ€, as necessary.
  • Click โ€œAddโ€.

Hope this helps!

Hi folks, the functionality changed a bit since the tome this post was published, but it's still possible to create Gantt Chart snapshots with the option "From project history" to get the project baseline.ย
