[From Wrike] Automation: Use System Fields as Triggers & Change Custom Field Value ๐
Hi Community!
We are delighted to bring you some major updates on Automation! ๐ย
New System Field Triggers ๐
The list of available triggers just got (much) bigger, including the following options: Start and Due date, Assignee, Duration, Importance, Name (Title), and Descriptionย ๐ฅ
You can also determine when to action the triggers: if a value has been added, removed or changed ๐ค Combined with the option to add conditions, the new possibilities opened by these enhancements are a total game-changer!ย
Also, more fields are to be added in the future, we will share the updates with you soon ๐
New Action to Change a Custom Field Value ๐
Triggers are not the only update we have! We added a new action to automation: โChange custom fieldโ! It will allow you to automatically change the value of a specific custom field. This way, you can now remove, change or add a specific value for the custom field, depending on the relevant trigger and conditions.ย
At the moment, the option is available for checkbox custom fields, but more types will be included among the options in the near future. Stay tuned for the updates, we know that many of you have been supporting this suggestion ๐
Please, feel free to share your use cases with us and let us know how youโd like to apply these new triggers and actions! If you have any specific questions, we are here to help ๐
Looking forward to your comments and feedback! ๐

Melissa DeKoff Brian Krause thank you for your messages, I'm glad to see you're excited about these new options! More are to come, we will keep you updated ๐
this is a very exciting update!ย Look forward to seeing more updates!
Thank you for your comment, Amy Hunter. We will keep you updated!ย
These are great additions!ย ย
For the "change custom fields" action, as new field types are added it would be GREAT to be able to change a date field to a few different options:
We have a lot of cases where tasks or projects go into a hold state for a period of time.ย When the task/project returns to Active status, we have to manually update a date field to track a new completion date, allowing us to track when the task/project was originally due and then the new, revised due date.ย Having the ability to automate this task would be a huge time saver!
Hi Chris Cashon, thank you very much for your feedback! I can clearly see the value of your suggestion and I have passed your comments to our Product Development Team ๐
Awesome addition!ย I strongly second being able to (as the action) change a custom date field.ย Thanks.
Hi Fred Lunau, thank you very much for your comment! We'll keep you updated on any changes ๐
Is it possible to use Custom Fields in the naming of new tasks via automation?
Example: We have custom item tasks for creating Blog Posts. In the custom workflow, the completed state is called "Published." I've successfully set up an automation that creates a new task for our Social Media Manager to promote the new blog post on social, but I'm getting stuck on how to make the name of that task reflect the title of the blog post.
Since it doesn't seem like I can pull the original task's name into the name field for the new task, I created a custom field in the Blog Post item type that is "Blog Headline." Is it possible to use this custom field in the titling of the social media post task? In my head, it would look something like this, although this doesn't seem to be working:
No Matt Curtis, for now you cannot achieve your need by using this automation.
