[Weekly Conversations] How Do You Spend Your Work Breaks? ๐ญ
ย
Hi Community ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
ย
In our last Weekly Conversation, we talked about going back to the office, and our current work setup. A lot of you mentioned you are in a hybrid or a remote role and prefer it that way! You can check out that conversation here.
ย
For this week, we would like to discuss something we could all use more of - work breaks โ๏ธ ๐๐
ย
Whether working hybrid, full-time in the office, or at home, we all need some breaks. It is proven by multiple studies that rest makes us more productive and happy, as well as ensures a work-life balance. We'd love to hear how you spend your work breaks, and maybe get some inspiration from each other.
ย
Is your work break a 15-minute workout between meetings, a chat with a colleague, or a cup of tea in your kitchen? Let us know in the comments below ๐
When I'm working at home (2 days a week), I typically sit outside without my phone and escape from technology to enjoy nature. When I'm at work, I'm lucky to get a break!
Since I'm home full time, I try to apply the 20-20-20 rule as much as I can... so that I give a break to my eyes - usually it's just staring out my window and checking out the animals that visit my front yard.ย But I also find I have to get up and stretch - now that it's warmer weather - I can sit out on my back porch and enjoy the quiet of the woods!
Fortunately we have flexible schedule in our department we can take breaks or lunch whenever we want to as long as we stick to 8hr work time. Luckily there is a coffee near our office and if all of us are at the office, we would go out together and get some coffee nearby.ย
I usually take my dogs outside.ย
Working from home full time, I have to remind myself to take breaks. Lucky for me, we have a dog that needs to get out and about every so often. When I do break it is to get away from my computer and decompress.
ย
I am back in the office full time after starting a new job. Fortunately, my office is close to a walking trail and my house. I will either go for a walk, run home and get a few things done, or run errands.
I divide work with other work when I am in the office. So do some meetings, some work on the computer and to have a look into the labs.
When I am in homeoffice it is all computer work, so for breaks I go out of my office and have a look what my family is doing.
Thanks to Sean for the inspiration
Thank you everyone for sharing, and for the inspiration โจ
I usually spend it getting some coffee, doing some chores around the house, or taking a brain break and reading some articles on my phone!
I'm full-time remote, so the most important thing is I get out of my office. Lately, I've been taking a break with easy-watching shows (currently Bob's Burgers) or educational YouTube videos (currently Technology Connections).
If I'm working from home, I got outside on my lake and feed the ducks for a few minutes. It's a nice brain break.
Doing house chores and Youtube breaks are in my routine as well ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ Thank you for sharing all!
I take a break from the computer by going for a walk down to the warehouse - "to pick up paperwork" but really I just need a walk, stretch and a break from screensย
When working from home I use my breaks to get chores or errands completed. When working in the office, I like to take a walk or grab something to drink from a local coffee shop.ย
Thank you for sharing and reminding us to take a screen break Debbie Brownlie and Melynda Willis ๐
When working from home I usually try to reclaim my garden. I was never much of a gardener but started some herbs and a few flowers during the stay-at-home phase. Now that I am only home two days a week, I usually spend 15-minute breaks watering a few things, deadheading, and weeding. It's cathartic. :)
Thank you for sharing Kelly R, I have to admit that I became a plant mom in that phase and love caring for plants now ๐ฟ
I always get up for a quick walk. At my job I don't have the option of working from home but we have a beautiful campus that I can take a quick walk around.ย
Oh that's always a great idea when you can go for a walk Robert Reiss ๐
