New Wrike: Pins vs Stars in Spaces. Confused!

I am trying the new Wrike as I want to take advantage of the product to it's fullest. We previously used a foldered hierarchy. Moving to Spaces we've broken this out to help declutter my team members and keep them in the right Space.

Can anyone help me understand the flow of tracking projects from the Space level? Or is there a way to at least add Pinned projects to a dashboard, like we can with Starred Tasks?

Previously I could Star a project and it would float in the upper left column. I tracked active projects this way, and when all items were complete I'd unstar them to remove. In New Wrike we now have Pins, and they've moved Dashboards in place of Starred items. Pinned Items only seem to appear over in the Dashboard, which is a click out of Spaces to view.

I'd considered starring items to include in a dashboard, but there are too many items in a project to star and unstar them all, and it doesn't group by project anyway.

Maybe I am missing something but this New Wrike feels like they have made it much harder to track "projects," and easier to track "tasks." But tracking tasks wasn't difficult in the last Dashboard, so I am unclear on what problem was solved with this interface change.

Hi Brandin Aguayo, welcome back to the Community 🙂

This is a very interesting question, thank you for posting!

You're correct that when you pin projects, they appear in the "Pinned items" section in your "My home":

It's also possible to create dashboards with all active projects from a particular space or multiple spaces and track them using that dashboard. You can then add that dashboard as a tool in a space to have quick access to it.

Please let me know if that helps!

Thanks Lisa, I did know this but it is helpful for others to see. My issue is I am now required to invert my behavior. I used to have quick access to a project folder, and could use dashboards for particular tasks. In the New Wrike, I have quick access to dashboards (once I am in a Space) but pinned items require me to leave the space I'm in to go find that link in "Home." It just doesn't feel fast and moving "pinned" to a horizontal sea of boxes in Home makes it find pinned items quickly.

I'd love to see the option of adding Pinned Items to a Dashboard, or to allow Projects and Folders in the sidebar of a Space again.

In addition, allow Home to be configured in more ways than "a sea of tiles."

Hi Brandin Aguayo

what do you mean with "allow Projects and Folders in the sidebar of a Space again"?

You can see every project and folder in the sidebar of any space.

And in your personal space you can even see your "stared items" like in the old Wrike layout.

Florian Kislich, thanks. Items in my personal Space are not of interest. The Projects and Folders I need to see are parts of other shared spaces. I understand the full folder structure is in the sidebar, I meant adding back the ability to see them alongside dashboards, as starred items. Starred tasks don’t help me. My whole point was wondering why Wrike would think inverting the behavior they’ve used for so long without any backwards compatibility was a good idea. I think many of my concerns would be resolved by allowing Pinned Tasks inside of a dashboard. Home could definitely be more useful, and in my personal case the way we label our folders and projects adds to the confusion (uses short codes and date codes, so many look similar).

Hi Brandin Aguayo,

OK, I understand you'd like a personal collection of favourite folders or projects listed in your left sidebar, right?

I've got a suggestion: Create a folder named "My favourites" or somehow in your personal space, and tag your favourite folders / projects of other spaces to that personal folder. So you can create your own collection in your personal space, without changing the folder structure of shared spaces.

Could this be helpful?

Florian, thanks for the suggestion, but this is even more complicated than the way New Wrike is designed. I can go Home and see Pinned Items. Or I can go into a dashboard without leaving a Space and see Starred. But Starred doesn't work for my workflow, and Pinned feels buried. See attached. The left side is current, the right side has a new "Pinned" Area similar to how Wrike used to work. I think this would be helpful, and it collapsible if users feel it makes the upper column busy.

Hi Brandin Aguayo,

thanks for sharing that, it makes your use case more clear. I think it would be a good suggestion for wrike to show pinned items additionally in the left sidebar as shown in your right picture.

But I still see a workaround to achive something similar. You could create a (public) folder named "_Favourites" or something like that in that space and tag your favs there. This would be visible to all users of this space, of course. Otherwise it must be a private Folder. But I like the idea of tagging specific tasks/folders/projects to folders like this in general.

Hello Florian and Lisa, how are you? Do you happen to have any update on this feature request coming from Brandin? The ability to star projects on the left sidebar made my life much easier in the old layout. And it would be super great if pinned projects would also appear there in the new layout going forward. I understand from this thread there are hacky workarounds to achieve more or less the same goal but none of them is as user friendly and straightforward as the old "starring" feature.

So basically my question is are there any plans to add this feature in the short run or should we accept the fact that we need to find other workarounds?

Thanks so much for your reply.

Regards,

Gabor

Hi Gabor Bejan, thank you for reaching out! As far as I know, there are no immediate plans to change this for now. But, and this is a best practice post for exchanging tips and tricks, I'd still recommend creating a separate Product Feedback post for this subject 👍
