[From Wrike] - Remote Working #DailyTips

Featured

Hi all ๐Ÿ™‚

In light of recent events, we're launching a series of #DailyTips to help you achieve effective remote collaboration. Remote work is new to many, and we hope that the advice shared here will be of value.

Tip #1: Our first tip encourages you to start your day in the usual way. Wake up at your normal time, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and have your morning coffee/tea. Essentially, begin your day as if youโ€™re going into the office. You will find yourself much more motivated to work than if you rolled right out of bed and sat down in front of your computer.

Please feel free to share your tips for remote working in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Don't forget to sign up to our upcoming webinar series where we'll be discussing best practices for working remotely ๐Ÿ‘

Tip #2: Part with your home office for a bit. Use your weekends to get out of the house. Itโ€™s becoming more of a challenge now, but try to take a break and drive around, walk through the park, or grab a coffee. Be sure to practice social distancing, but enjoy your time away from the computer โ˜€๏ธ

Tip #3: Set up your workspace at a table or desk rather than a sofa or bed. Youโ€™ll get more work done, and itโ€™s less likely that youโ€™ll get sleepy.

Tip #4: Practice gratitude. Before logging into your computer, write down 5 things youโ€™re grateful for.

Just like staying motivated for fitness, find a partner who will hold you accountable. Agree to have a 15-minute call/video chat at the beginning of your day and read your to-do list to each other - doesn't matter if they're in the same service as you, or even in the same company! Might just be another friend working from home.

Touch base again later in the afternoon. You don't need a boss to keep you accountable, use your colleagues/friends and be competitive about it ๐Ÿ˜œ. It'll be great practice for learning how to make achievable lists!

Tip #5: What is the โ€œnew normalโ€ for parents these days? You + children + home = 24/7. Donโ€™t panic! If schools are shut down in your area, consider opening up your office to your children. Set up their own desk and map out a daily schedule so you can get work done while they complete online assignments. Message us if you want to see one Wrikerโ€™s daily schedule!

Tip #6: Sometimes, to get a little work done, you need to put Frozen II on. In these tough times, routines are being broken left and right. So...as Anna would say, "Do the next right thing." ๐Ÿ™‚โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ

Tip #7: Schedule a brief morning and afternoon break. โฒ๏ธ These are times that youโ€™d normally grab coffee or chat with a coworker at the office. If something at home distracts you (like the laundry ๐Ÿงบ) tell yourself a break is coming and save it for then!

Tip #8: Miss your coworkers? We certainly do. Keep in touch outside of meetings by setting up virtual coffee breaks or happy hours โ˜•๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ™‚

Tip #9: We know you love your children, but itโ€™s the perfect time to set work boundaries. One Wriker said, โ€œMy office has a door, and it's not for knocking. When the door is closed, it's like daddy has got in his car and left for the office.โ€ Even a simple Post-It on the door could stop the next BBC interview disaster...although, we could all use a good laugh!

Tip #10: Practice the 20/20/20 rule to protect your ๐Ÿ‘€

Situate your desk in front of a window, and every 20 minutes take 20 seconds to stare at something 20 feet away - your backyard, the trees, squirrels fighting, etc. It helps! ๐Ÿ‘

Tip #11: Create a work-from-home โ€œcommute.โ€ Take a walk around the block before logging in. If youโ€™re in a lockdown or โ€œshelter in placeโ€ zone, hop on your treadmill or do laps around your yard ๐Ÿšถ

Tip #12: Try to use home office equipment youโ€™ll be excited to work with every day  ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธโŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ And try to maintain the same ergonomic standards you would at the office. Keep things you use often within arm's reach, check your monitor height, take stretch breaks, pay attention to any aches/pains and adjust accordingly ๐Ÿ‘

Tip #13: Play music softly in the background of your workspace when not on calls  ๐Ÿ“ป๐ŸŽถ The silence of your home can often be a big change from the office and can throw you off your game. Music is less distracting than TV and podcasts.

Tip #14: You canโ€™t walk over to your coworkerโ€™s cube anymore. Sigh. That said, if you Slack them and they donโ€™t respond right away, itโ€™s not personal. Itโ€™s probably because theyโ€™re busy. If you donโ€™t hear back, switch gears so it doesnโ€™t feed any feelings of isolation.
