New Custom Field Type - Icon (or add optional Icon/Color to options in Single Select type)

We continue to get requests from our Wrike users for more visual elements (images/colors) on table-based reports and in the Table views for projects/folders.

We'd like the ability to select from a pre-defined list of icons within a custom field and set the color (similar to how Space icons are selected/configured), where that icon/color will be visible when the custom field is displayed in Table view for folders/projects or in table-based reports.

We're thinking along the lines of a new custom field type similar to the existing single-select type. But instead of entering text for each option, you would select an icon/color, so the custom field would allow single selection from a pre-defined list of these icons. (Even better if you can also enter text for each icon, and have that text appear as a tooltip on icon hover.)

Maybe icons/colors could instead be added as an option to the existing Single Select custom field type?

We're already using custom workflows to add color where we can, and that works in some cases, but that's not flexible enough to solve for all the use cases where imagery/colors would be helpful.

Here are a couple of simple mockups of how this might look in the table view and reports.

Laura Boylan you can use Emoji's as values in a Custom Field!  They even work with Wrike Analyze to show the emoji's visually in Reporting.  We added one for "Project Health" using values of a Red Circle, a Yellow Circle and a Green Circle and show these in Analyze or use in automations.  Wanted to mention!

Meredith Selden - Thank you! Didn't occur to me to try that. Sigh...

I've shared your feedback with our Product team Laura Boylan, but please let us know how it works with emojis if you try that approach 🙂

Laura Boylan I have to admit - I actually learned it from my Customer Success Manager!  They're such a great resource 💖

We set up single-select custom fields with emojis as the options, so we're able to see them in table/reports and also select them for grouping/sorting. Not all emojis work quite right (some don't retain color, and size is far too small), so this isn't ideal. It would also be preferable to have a legend (text) for each emoji when grouping on reports. But as a workaround, it's okay.

Hi Laura Boylan, thank you for your follow-up! Apart from the emojis, would adding text to the options be helpful in your case?

Hello.  Are the emojis being used just the ASCII codes?  I have not had luck adding them to our single select options.  Thank you!
