Can I make custom fields read only for some users and editable for others?

I see that I can share custom fields with particular groups or users.  Can I make custom fields visible to all users but editable for only some?

Hi Daniel, thanks for this question and welcome to the Community!  You can edit the Folder and Project permissions of users so that they can only complete certain actions in those Folders and Projects. By setting a user with Limited access they won't be able to edit Custom Fields.

Alternatively, If you add users as Collaborators they can view Custom Fields but they cannot edit their values. Check out our Types of Licenses to see what else Collaborators can do in the account. This article from Stephanie about what Collaborators see in your Wrike account may be useful to you too.

There is no option to selectively decide which regular users can edit Custom Fields only, but it's an interesting idea. Perhaps you'd be interested in suggesting it in our Product Feedback section so others can vote and discuss it's implementation.

Hi

As this post has been quiet for some time now, I was wondering if we have any recent changes facilitating this request. We have a similar use case: custom fields visible to all users, but only editable by a selected group.

The workarounds suggested in the previous post are not applicable in our use case because users needs editing some custom fields in the same folder.

Many thanks.

Hi Paco Cuesta, thank you for reaching out! Apart from Access Roles that Stephen mentioned previously, there are no changes in relation to editing custom fields.

Just in case you missed this update, our team has recently released custom field management section in settings that allows account admins to access the account-wide custom field management.

This problem blows my mind... such a basic but critical function cannot be easily resolved. The solution is so simple - just provide a function to enable Space Admins or Master Admin to have a Admin Edit Only function for every Custom Field - instead of these time wasting work-arounds.  Daniel's query is from November 2017 - so almost SIX YEARS and still no result. The work arounds I have been given do not work as I need people to edit some custom fields in their space but protect our BUDGET Data - Very disappointed and a significant mark against Wrike from me on this 'easy to rectify' issue.

Hello Adrian Polden, thank you for sharing your use case with us. I'm sorry to hear this has impacted your work in a negative way. I'd like to mention that, as stated in our Help Center, it is currently possible to keep the ability to create and edit custom fields available exclusively to Space admins. Is this what you were looking for?

Looking forward to your reply.

Good Morning Juan...

As I have previously written... this does not work for us by virtue of the way we use Wrike.

Unless I set up individual user types (which I have already done to suit the workflows) then once we grant user Write access at the space level, all users who can write (edit) on any custom field within that space can actually also edit the Custom Filed Columns which I need to lock down as they contain critical Corporate Data.

I understand Wrike are cautious to add functionality that may not be fully utilised, but I also feel a function to enable "Admin Edit Only" would be profoundly useful for all. I have worked closely with our Wrike Customer Service Account Manager and she has agreed there is no current solution - so I have a small amount of Custom Field Data which is currently risking our overall process security.

Hello Adrian Polden, thank you for your reply and for the additional details about your use case. Please, feel free to upvote this similar product feedback post. As Lisa mentioned in that thread, the Product Development team is currently working on an option to block specific data, we will inform you about it as soon as we receive the updates 👍
