[Status: Investigating ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ] Custom Field HTML Link

Pinned

I need a Custom Field type to be "Link" whereby a HTML link becomes clickable.

ย

Example Custom Fields:

Google Drive Folder

URL

etc

ย

Currently, one must use TEXT type field, and manually copy/paste the HTML link.

Hey Community,

I just came here in order to request the Hyperlink feature within custom fields and was happy finding an already existing pinned thread about exactly that. What makes me rather unhappy is to read that this was reported 4 years ago and obviously is highly requested by everyone here ever since. Some users even mentioned that they will consider your competitors. Similar applications have even fancier customizable field/features. We are simply talking about a every trivial function that is a hyperlink which is existing since the internet.

You guys have a AI based feature that is suggesting tasks on my Wirke-Homepage, WOW! I'm very sure that you can also have hyperlinks within customizable fields.

Please!ย ๐Ÿ˜ย

Sincerely,

Max

It would be really helpfull to get the typ "Link" for Custom Fields!

We use extern software like a ticket system or figma, where all the layouts are designed.
It would be great to open the links by one click, without need to copy the whole content of the field.

I ran into this limitation today and ended up on this feed searching for a solution.

I can't stress enough how important it is to be able to create custom fields that function as links as this is an industry-standard feature available in most tabular PM systems (Asana, Air Table, etc.). This allows for interoperability with workflows that exist outside of Wrike and is a must-have for our team.ย

Greatly looking forward to an update.

Cansuย ๐Ÿ˜ข that's the standard answer that we get since 2018... really disappointing for indeed an industry standard feature.

This is soooo easy to start with. It could be the most simple feature to implement at least a starting version. It's mind boggling it takes sooooo long to even consider and put on a product roadmap.

Example of 2 custom field definitions:

Done.
As a first version, this woud help so much.

Really, really disappointing.

Hi Cansu. Can you give us an idea of how long the product team would need to research? Thank you.

Hi, Adam Grant. ย

I've done a little research on this thread, and it looks like the product team has so far only had four years to research the deep complexities inherent in this feature request. ย It's looking increasingly likely that it should only take a few more years for them to complete their research.

Hopefullyย Cansuย can confirm or deny this hypothesis.

Hello everyone, thank you for posting and supporting this suggestion. This suggestions' status was updated to "Investigating" in February, reflecting the current research by our Product team on the possibility of introducing Custom Field HTML links.
ย
Please allow me to give a little background on the Product Feedback process for clarification, you can find further detail in this Community article as well. The Product team considers information and metrics from various channels when deciding what to work on next. This includes all relevant data, user feedback, and Community suggestions/votes. The priorities decided by the team always aim to focus on implementing the functionality that will have the widest impact and benefit for the most users. Although we'd love to be able to implement all of the suggestions we receive, we have to prioritize certain requests over others based on various factors and considerations at the time.
ย
However, the good news here is that this idea is currently being researched by our Product team. The research period is dependent on the course of the investigation and for that reason, I don't have any ETA to share with you just yet. I will, however, be sure to update the thread when I have more news to share.
ย
Please let me know if you have any questions.

This is a simple feature that most other Project Management tools out there have. A must in my opinion. Agree with everyone that said this has taken too long to implement. It seems a simple feature to add that can create a big impact in workflows, for example, for content teams linking to G Drive or Office 360 drafts to review.

I'm confused as to what the issue is... I'm able to paste links into descriptions and in comments and they work just fine as hyperlinks.ย

We haven't evolved into the need to use custom fields so this issue is more for using them, yes?

Nic Phillips how is OneDrive "kludgy"? lol.ย

Lisa What is the progress of this ticket - it's been filed 5 years ago now, been in research on your product side since start/mid last year according to your post, and Q1 2022 update is missing on the issue.

We would really like this feature.

John Rakoczy as the title of this thread says: HTML inlins in Custom fields.
So yeah, it's about... HTML links in CUSTOM FIELDS.

Thank goodness we can paste URLs in bodies and comments, and they turn into links. If we had to wait 5 years to get that feature, I wouldn't be waiting for 5 years...

Lisa or Cansu - or whoever might be responsible today for communications: I'm kinda betting you are a bit afraid to post in this thread for the umptied time that the team is investigating, debating, considering or doubting to implement this feature.

But I'm gonna try anyway: what's the status here?
And what is the chance this will get implemented in the next year - or any time range?

My team moved off Wrike specifically because this feature is missing. After a year of using Wrike and trying to finagle a solution, it just didn't work well without being able to add clickable URLs to custom fields. There's a lot to love about Wrike, but this missing feature is a huge red flag and a deal breaker.

Well I for one cannot wait to see what five years of research for a URL field will result in. Kara Sorry you're going to miss out on the big update in *checks notes* Q1 2022!

Hi everyone! I've just checked with the team again: this is something they are still researching with plans to work on this improvement in relation to other updates that are planned for this year. Because it's a little early to talk about them, we will leave the "Investigating" status here for now, but we will let you know when we are ready to share more on this topic.ย

Chiming in here to say this would also be SO HELPFUL for basically every project I manage in Wrike -- we're using this as a collaborative tool, and having a custom field that directly linked to the internal document system we have would make that task collaboration so much faster. Baffling that this isn't already an option, tbh.ย

Lisa can you explain maybe what exactly it is the team is researching?

  • is it a lot of work to add a new custom field type?
  • is it a lot of work to allow formulas to create strings that would result into this new custom field type?
  • do we oversimplify the issue - or does the team overestimate the requirements?
  • could we help in defining and sketching some of the requirements?
  • any other tangible reason why this is not moving forward?

I just want to understand, help and avoid looking at this thread for another 4 years.ย

Lisa In our way of working, this could be a start of our usage of a clickable HTML field:

Using the API:

  • from our backoffice, we would add "Create ticket" buttons on various objects, like a particular order, client, dealer, user, person, and more
  • we would ask for a title and short description, and then use the Wrike API, create a ticket with the given info, an object type and an ID - or the URLย  to this object directly if formula's would be too difficult.
  • We would add a second link to the same object, linking to this object in our Hubspot environment

VIa manual input:

  • If a person would create a ticket from scratch in Wrike, he would choose an object type (text dropdown) and fill in a some ID number, and a calculated field would produce the same URL to this object in our backoffice
  • I assume now we can have IF-statements in the formula, which indeed is not there yet. But we could work around that I guess.

This way we could

  • query Wrike tickets on how many cases we have per object type, see status, and jump straight to the object itself.
  • interlink tickets into any web application without the ticket being a deadend.
