Is it possible to put an additional column on the timelog?
We'd like to note whether the time spent was planned or unplanned work when entering time against a task. In current revision, we can mark the task as planned or unplanned, but not the individual time entry. If we encounter a situation where we're still working on the same task, but it's unexpected work, can we capture that?
Would this be related to that time being billable/non-billable?
More or less. Our work is all internal, but we are trying to improve departmental planning accuracy through data capture. Both time entries would be internal, but one would be unanticipated.
Hi Prentiss, thanks for reaching out here! That's an interesting use case, and it sounds like Custom Fields could help here. While the column with the Custom Field isn't visible in the Timelog View, it can be viewed alongside time entries in the Table View. Team members can add anticipated time entries through the Time Tracker, and unanticipated hours through a duration type Custom Field:
Happy to hear what you think of this!
That solution would probably work, but I doubt we'd use if I were to set it up that way because we'd have to manually track the unplanned time separately or do math when updating the number. Our habits aren't that good. We were hoping to use a custom field on a timelog entry...
One of our 2017 initiatives is to mature in our planning through useful metrics that show us where the deficiencies emanate. We currently use an "Unplanned" custom field to mark an entire task as unexpected in our scrum. The trick here is that many of our planned tasks have unexpected work hours put against them, breaking our time budgets.
