[Status: Backburner ⌛️] Assign User Groups

I was very disappointed to see that you cannot assign a User Group to a task. I understand Wrike's idea that each task should have a single assignee (What we used to call an ONTG - one neck to grab) but it is also very common to have multiple people assigned to a task with one person responsible. We wanted to use User Groups this way so we did not have to go through the hassle of adding each individual you wanted to assign one at a time, which by the way Wrike allows and is exactly the same as allowing a User Group to be assigned, just much more time consuming. So if you can do it one by one it only makes sense to support doing it as a group

So I would like a feature enhancement to allow User Groups to be assigned to a task.

What I would like to see is the ability to add a pre-determined list of individuals as followers or assignee's. Similar to how you can make an email group. Making sure to add individuals gets very tedious and very easy to forget someone. Especially when you have a team of individuals that are from different disciplines i.e.electrical, mechanical, etc working towards the task. Ultimately what I would like to see is the ability to make my own personal group of pre-selected individuals I can add to a task as assignee's or followers.

Has this been addressed by Wrike yet? It seems like there are a large number of users requesting this functionality and I too, would benefit from the ability to assign a group to a task.  We currently assign all tasks for a particular department to one person, but are now running into the issue that an individual can only have a capacity of 24h/day when in fact with the number of team members, the capacity is closer to 30h/day.

Assigning a task to a job role is more of a book keeping item. It doesn't assign the task to each person with that role. The tasks do not show up in the user's To-Do list nor are the members notified. However, the notifications would probably not be helpful. Assigning tasks to a group is a requirement for using Wrike as an issue tracking / ticketing system. Having 10 people be notified that the group has a task would become noisy. A To-Do list for a role would be helpful to see the queue.

In our use case, we have hundreds of projects to coordinate (as we use this as a customer work queue to build and install customers). Every "project" has the same 20 tasks, or so, and those 20 tasks are really departments that own those tasks, not individuals.  Part of the HUGE value of Wrike vs MS Project, is that it is online and allows collaboration.  If you want to just have a project manager manage the task and team then I think you have just created an online version of MS Project (or the likes).  The benefit of Wrike is that it can be collaborative and be used as workflow and not just project management.  By supporting this feature, you enable multi-user environments to progress jobs/projects as teams instead of a single PM managing the project or Tasks within a project.

I would love the ability to assign to a group.  I would maintain my prerogative to make individual assignments, as necessary, on different tasks or even on subtasks underneath the task I've assigned to the group.  I'm not a micromanager and I have sub-departments under my leadership which don't have their own people managers assigned.  So, there are certain tasks where it would be extremely convenient to assign to an entire sub-department in order to foster collaboration and aid in my ability to delegate and release involvement in operations. 

 

Given the mutually inclusive nature of being given the choice to opt for either group or individual assignment, I really don't understand the developer's insistence that this would break something.  Flexibility and optional workflow is never a bad thing in a software platform.

This feature would be very useful to my company as well. When we have changes in team members, being able to have tasks assigned to a group instead of individuals would greatly cut down the time I have to spend reassigning tasks.

Lisa assigning with a job role doesn't allow for notifications. That would defeat the purpose in my case. 

Per the Job Roles info page:

"At the same time, when you assign a task to a job role, users with this role don’t get any notifications, and they don’t automatically get access to the task. This way you can plan projects without distracting your employees with unnecessary @mentions. "

Because this idea, although on the team's radar, isn't currently planned to be worked on, I've changed the status here to Backburner so that it's not confusing to everyone here. This doesn't mean that assigning user groups will never be implemented, but the team can't prioritize this work currently over other planned updates. We understand this may be disappointing news, but please rest assured that I and my colleagues will continue to pass on new feedback here and we'll regularly check for updates with the team.

It would also be helpful if it was possible to copy assignees from one task to another. The only way to do this now is in table view with the blue dot in the down right corner of the cell. But if the tasks are not in adjacent rows, this doesn't work. Copy paste would help.

I understand the stance expressed elsewhere from the Wrike team that they think tasks would get confusing for assignees if assigned to a group but in a production environment this is a common real-world need. Please keep this feature request alive.

Adding another plus 1. I'm really surprised to see that there are hundreds of people interested in this topic, many different reasons why they need this functionality, yet it's not been addressed, because the Wrike team thinks it's confusing -- odd stance.

I'll add my scenario: I want my teams to easily have access to certain recurring (team) tasks, and it's easier to manage the groups than having to add people (or remove) one by one from these recurring tasks that they are assigned to. We mainly use these generic tasks for time tracking purposes, which is why I want them assigned to the recurring tasks, so their time sheets automatically populate with these tasks and they dont have to go looking for them.

It really defeats the purpose for me to have to manually add people to a recurring task - it's an overly time-consuming admin burden, especially when it looks like this is a functionality that should be easily done (seeing as sharing with groups etc. is already available).

I would love for this to get updated, it would really increase the functionality of the recurring tasks.

It's staggering to me that this functionality has been requested since 2017, has 4 pages of comments and is the 6th most upvoted request in the forum... but Wrike still has it listed as a backburner.
