What if in the area where documents land in Wrike, there could be a foldering system wherein the end user could manage source files, working drafts, and final documents?

I concur. I have a number of clients with which I need to manage costs and resources.
We hope that the Wrike team can provide a target of when this might be on the roadmap/in development. I am putting off using/purchasing another system, and One Drive suck for team access.
