[From Wrike] Smart Folders are coming to a Personal Space near you!

Update: Smart Folders are now available in your Wrike account!

Hey there!

On October 31, the My Work view will be leaving the Wrike platform. But don’t fret! We’ve got some exciting news that we’re excited to share. We’d like to announce that Smart Folders will be entering the Personal Space to replace the legacy My Work view.

What are Smart Folders you ask?

Smart Folders automatically populate tasks for you, depending on certain properties of the folder. Smart Folders entering Wrike:
  • My to-do: All your assigned tasks appear in this smart folder for you to organize and prioritize as you see fit

  • Created by me: Quickly find all the tasks and requests that you’ve created, even if you’re not assigned to them

Are you ready for Smart Folders? Comment below to let us know what you think! 🙂

This is terrible. We've been with Wrike for years and served as references for the sales team. Now I guess I'll explore a new tool unless I can figure out a real way to manage my tasks in the order I want them in.

I tried it in Priority order and it just pukes out every single task. And you can only drag them until you click on one of the tasks and then forget about it.

What a bad idea.

Hey guys,

Just learned that you switch off My work. How can I check active task list for today? For example I have task that I want to postpone to next week and I don't want to see it in My tasks. As I see My to-do shows all my active tasks even those which I don't want to see today, but they are active anyway.

Jim, Lizzie, Kristin, and Luis,

You can drag and drop any list of tasks the way you see fit by sorting by priority instead of date. Hope that helps!

I do not find it to be useful to change the " My Work" . I can see my To Do, All my task and Created by me all in one click. What makes this better?

As we have teams that work exclusively in 'My Work' this is a huge bummer. Very skeptical of replacement :( fingers crossed it's manageable

This is terrible. When work is assigned to me, it just goes to the top of my list in My To-Do with no visual indication that is a new item needing my attention to act upon. It is too easily lost in my large list. Also, why is it in my personal space. I use Wrike for work. I never use my personal space. I use my Work Spaces only. And if I have multiple work spaces, because, GASP, I work in an enterprise, all my work across all spaces is jumbled in my personal space. I should be able to organized My To Dos by each space.

They better not get of My Work. What are the Wrike Developers thinking.

To-Do List looks completely useless, I'm afraid. I guess I'll be switching to using a dashboard to manage tasks assigned to me.

What I love about "My Work" is that I am able to see what is due today, this week, next week and later. How can this be achieved from the "To-do" view? Please say there is a way since this is vital for me. I was able to order them without assigning real dates.

To see the tasked separated by "today, this week, etc", I have to use the  "By date" sorting, but then tasks cannot be reordered! They are forced to be ordered alphabetically within the Date hierarchy. I'm driving crazy with this :S

PLEASE add the reorder feature!!

The To-Do folder feature is HORRIBLE!

What I love about My Work is that I can see what is relevant to me now - NOT the stuff that's coming up in a month that I don't have to think about, but do need to start in two weeks. Now it's all one big list of tasks that makes me anxious and needs brain energy to sort through every time I try to see what's on my agenda today.

DON'T MAKE ME GO BACK TO THE OUTLOOK-LIKE FEATURES THAT DROVE ME TO WRIKE IN THE FIRST PLACE! If I wanted that kind of experience, it's already available to me.

I function solely in My Work. It's the one safe haven I have in what is otherwise a needlessly complicated system (in my opinion, of course.) I like to see what I have assigned to me on the left, organized by time, while also having the selected task up on the right. This is essential to how I keep on-task and organized, as well as adjusting my workflow so I'm always currently working on the most important or time-sensitive task. I've yet to find anything else in Wrike that is as easily manageable or simplistically portrayed as My Work. On behalf of us little folk, I implore you to reconsider.

We are not fans of this. The My Work feature was one of the main features we liked about Wrike, as it made it easy to visually organize tasks assigned to us without feeling overwhelmed by a long list of projects. It's what differentiated Wrike from all the other project managers that we had tried, and to lose it would be a huge loss. Now it's just a sortable list of tasks, but there is no way to pleasantly visualize it unless you do dashboards I guess.

@amandasmith 100% agree. This is impossible without the project its associated with. Each project very easily has the same set of tasks. So we just see Draft Cost Proposal (for example) 30 times listed, without an idea as to what it has to do with.

'My Work' was already difficult to use....'My to-do' just seems useless.

One of the big reasons I use Wrike, albeit the free version, is specifically for My Work. I love that feature, and if it goes away, I don't know that I'll continue to use the platform. Hopefully you will reconsider!

Looks like Folders/Projects can be viewed in My To-Do under the three-dot menu, so that's one minor relief.

I  had a really bad feeling about this when it was announced and voiced my concern way back up at the top of the thread and it's not until today that the people have really come out of the woodwork to let you know how they feel.

I used Wrike, non-committaly and irregularly for the first year and half that I had it. . .Initially I signed up for the drag and drop functionality.

I struggled with it because it really failed to have a great, single, unified way of managing all the current tasks. I tried everything. . .dashboards, folders, projects etc. but it was My Work in the end that I managed to find workarounds to make work properly and now I use it religiously to manage. . .oh. . .just my ENTIRE LIFE! :D

So now to see the proposed replacement feature is actually just another freaking task list. . .well, let's just say - you can put lipstick on a pig, guys - but at the end of the day. . . well. . .that lipstick wearing pig is still going to be prettier than the proposed replacement of My Work. Sorry - just being honest.

I'd love to understand the rationale of removing My Work? Why was is thought to be a feature that could be made redundant? Was it's architecture in some way blocking future development of the platform? What about My To Do was thought to be superior to My Work?

From where I'm sitting - and from what I'm reading. . .this is not a popular choice and I think we'd all love to know why and how it came to be. Probably the biggest question is. . .Why is it necessary to retire My Work? Why can't it be left in place for the users that wish to make use of it. . .and My To do can be used by whoever feels it suits their workflow?

A bit of communication would go a long way.

I agree with the multiple comments above about the NEED for the Today / This Week / Next Week / Later headers to drag and drop and re-order. This was my main workflow tracker, so to hear it is going away means that I have to find another non-Wrike solution if Wrike doesn't change their minds.

Extraordinarily disappointing to see the alert on the "My Work" page today about "My Work" being sunsetted and "My To Do" replacing it. I took a look at "My To Do," and it is NOT what I need at all. My tasks tend not to have firm due dates, but get moved around based on urgency and need, so I HAVE to have that functionality!

Hopefully the Wrike team will hear the outcry from those who are being alerted to this today, and continue "My Work"!

So, if the switch was flipped today, I'd be sitting on about 120 tasks in My To-Do that I now have to figure out how to sort in a giant list. Better do it carefully, too, because if you drag too quickly, you might nest a task under something unrelated. And you'll constantly have to be re-evaluating your tasks order and timelines because you can't just file it away as "later this week".

I've already found My Work barely can serve heavy task loads in comparison to paper lists—now it's being replaced with a list that already was handled more powerfully and efficiently with Dashboards and Reports... Maybe this will kick the crutch out that was preventing me from some different better organization scheme.

If only you had added project/subtask grouping to My Work that probably would have made an improvement.

Not sure I like this change as I've become quite accustomed to the My Work feature and so have my entire team whom I onboarded and trained almost two years ago.

There's no exception to this?  Accounts can't request to hold on to their legacy My Work feature?

👍 Spot On 💡 Innovative Approach 💪 Stellar Advice ✅ Solved 🪄 Remove Kudos

Not feeling this forced changed as well. Mainly the My to-do is too condensed and bumps the Folder Name (client) from below to in-line and doesn't show the Name if the Task description is too long. My visual workflow is based off seeing client tagged tasks. A "comfortable" view (2 lines per Task) would be a nice feature option if we're forced to use the current UI.

Oh man this is bad. Besides taking away TODAY/TOMORROW/THIS WEEK/NEXT WEEK/LATER view, now you can't see what project the task is associated with anymore. In my work you could also click on the project name, which was a great shortcut to the entire project's tasks. Now it's just this huge running list with no reference to anything but the due date and task status. Makes it over whelming and harder to filter. Unless I'm missing something?

Edit: Just learned best way around this is to make a custom dashboard. Has all the same features as "My Work" plus more.

Please, please reconsider the sunsetting of My Work.

My Work is Wrike for most of our team. It's where all our actual work gets started. Nothing else in the platform provides the clear focus on what's important to work on now, the context of what's coming up next, or the straightforward organization of the most immediate subset of assigned tasks.

My Work can't be replicated with dashboards, and "My To Do" is a poor replacement. Instead of a reasonable set of immediate tasks, My To Do presents a daunting and chaotic list that seems impossible to accomplish.

If My Work must go, could it at least be possible to recreate the Today / This Week / Next Week / Later model as a dashboard?

Wrike...please tell us you are listening and will reconsider taking away My Work??

I hope the new one works out, I sure liked the My Work tab.

I really wish your team would work on other things first like the ridiculously small scroll bar in all the windows - this has been a known complaint for a very long time and nothing is being done about it.

Same as Jim Tobin, I use MyWork as my main reference for To Do's and I appreciate being able to separate the tasks into this week, next week etc. I also like to drag tasks into a different order, which doesn't seem to work in the new format. The proposed change looks like a backward step to me. Perhaps you can leave the old MyWork format available as an option?

HI guys

I am massively busy wearing many hats as I build a fairly large company.  I have spent months perfecting my use of Wrike and My Work is instrumental.  The Today / This week / Next week / Later aspect is critical to my workflow.

If this functionality is not identical in My Todo I am going to have to rewind and rethink everything at the cost of a lot of time.  This is highly discouraging to me, when you come out with new functionality and assume that folks will be happy to just jump over.

I seriously suggest the following

1) Bring in My Todo but do NOT eliminate My Work option.  This is by far the preferred approach from my perspective.
2) If you MUST eliminate My Work option (and I feel the user community deserves to really understand WHY), please wait several more months, say to the 1st of 2020, so those of us who are working intensely with My Work can carve out the time to completely reorganize our workflow.

C'mon guys, Wrike is great, I'm a big fan, but signifiacnt losses of functionality without a LOT of advance notice is really hard for some end users - like me - to handle!

Thanks

Marc Gimbrere

I could live with the new folder instead of My Work if would be possible to manually rearrange tasks regardless of the sorting (eg, within a certain day if sorted by date).

Although im still struggling to understand how is that an improvement. Cant My Work co-exist with smart folders?

Why are you turning off My Work tab? It's the most used feature for me and my team.My to do, is much worse than my work tab now!

DONT DO IT! I dont see a point of turning off a feature that was really great to start with. We will probably switch to another platform if we lose MyWork since it's the way we organize work.....

I echo the sentiments of everyone on this thread. We are an enterprise customer with a lot of users, and I assure you there will be a reconsideration of Wrike if this is implemented without more thought and dev, since most of us use the My Work section to organise our day. If you give us ALL the functionality that My Work has plus additional, then go for it. But to bombard us with a major task list which isn't intuitive won't fly. Please take your customers seriously on this one because the voices on this thread aren't positive.
