This would be useful. Our team plans prospective projects and assigns them to team members to get a sense of potential workload. 

I don't want these tasks hitting my teams to do lists until they are confirmed and labeled with an active task status. But it would still be handy to have the ability to set dependencies on them when they are deferred. 

One of the first things you would want to do with a task on hold in the real world is reschedule it (along with all the tasks that depend on it) for a later time. Projecting workloads is impossible without being able to reschedule tasks on hold and the best way to reschedule tasks in a dependency chain is to use the dependency chain to do it. Having deferred tasks break dependency chains seems both undesirable and arbitrary to me. Please fix this.

Upvoted!  This is a vital enhancement to help support our enterprise-wide project planning.  I hope this gets on the radar soon as it's a significant detriment to our planning efforts when we build dependencies only to lose them if someone needs to temporarily put a task on hold.

This request reached over 60 votes awhile ago and hasn't received a status. Can you please take this request into consideration, as it would be a really helpful feature. Thanks!

Hi there, what is the proposed workaround for this? I am guessing that this was put on the backburner despite its popularity because the team thinks there is a suitable short term workaround for this. Lag isn't a substitute for this feature since there is not truly a lag between tasks.
