Wrike Calendar - display tasks by Custom Field dates
We have different milestone dates that are currently being captured in Custom Fields that I would like to also be able to visualize on a Calendar.
Current Work-around: What I've been doing as work-around is to change the Due Date on the task to match the specific milestone so it will show in the calendar that way, (and append the task name to reflect the kind of milestone due date), however it's tedious to change the due dates and task name to reflect that all the time.
Suggestion: Wrike Calendars that are "Smart based on Tasks" is really helpful to visualize due dates when selecting "End Date" for Task Duration to Display. The ability to create calendars that display Custom Field dates as an end date would allow calendars that display the same tasks, but showcase the different kind of milestone due dates.
I agree. This would be very useful in my role. I'm currently evaluating project management tools for my work, and not being able to have the option is very challenging.
Hi guys, I'd like to get a little more information about your processes and how you're creating Milestone dates.
Usually, milestones are tasks themselves within the Project. I'd like to understand more about your projects and how a single task has multiple milestones?
Stephen, I don't know much about the other two, but for me here is how this would be useful.
I have people submitting a request form to create a task that has multiple facets. One might be creating content, another is get it on the website, and another might be the time that we need to be actively communicating that request from our stage or social media. A single request form can't create multiple dates, or separate tasks that aren't related, so we would love to be able to tie a calendar to the custom field dates we have created so I can view those things as they are necessary..
In practice, a calendar that shows the due date of the content creation task. And another calendar that shows when I need to get that on the website.... one task, multiple stages and multiple due dates.
@Jordan Hi, thanks for sharing this here, it'll really help when our Product team when they review this suggestion 👍 I'll update you here when I have news about this request.

This would be very helpful!
I.e. we do a lot of marketing, it would be very nice to display the days the ads are running without interrupting the normal work calendar. If I create a custom date start and a date end field (or a custom date range field😁), and could display these dates in the calendar. This could be used to display helpful information in an orderly manner that don't have any additional information or takes any effort, but is still useful information for the task.
It's not every small task or piece information you want to create a sub-task or task for, this could easily get very cluttered.
This would be very helpful. Using custom fields for dates in tasks that relate to marketing activities is what we would use them for. For example, if we are creating video content, I would like to see the shoot date, and release date which are both custom fields without having to make a separate subtask with the task title information.
Please implement this functionality.
Our use case would be for managing the dates required to complete updates for a any sort of entity. I want to create a ticket which represents a specific restaurant location. I use custom field to define all of the offerings for this location. Frequently the offerings and associated ad buys change and I want to create a calendar and gantt charts based on the custom field launch dates. This will allow me to have one ticket that contains all of the information for a location and the ability to schedule. Currently every location needs a custom ticket for each possible launch date. We deal with large restaurant brands and hundreds of individual locations. We currently use another system to handle the scheduling because Wrike does not give us the flexibility to do it.
This would be helpful for our team.
Echoing Johan's comment that a Gant Chart View tied to a custom field date range would be particularly useful.
Hi Stephen, this seems to be an old post but I wanted to specifically address your question?
For most repetitive-type requests (80-90% of requests) our group uses multiple milestones within a single task.
This is done by outlining a proposed timeline w/milestone dates (ex: 1st review, Quality Control/Proofreading, Marketing Approval, etc) within the task's description.
The advantages:
The disadvantages:
Hi Andrew Goddard, thank you for sharing your use case in detail here, I've shared it with the team.
I have another use-case and where this feature would make a lot of Wrike users' lives better.
Our marketing team uses Wrike for tracking programs. Specifically for our email channel, we would like to utilize the calendar feature to track email send dates/times and centralize Wrike for all things campaigns.
I have created a custom date field for "Email Send Date" and would like to show that date as a layer on the calendar. In the calendar layer settings, I have selected my custom field "Email Send Date," which is confusing because why can you use it as a filter but can't use it as criteria for a layer? Especially the date field type specific to the calendar?
I guess the workaround would be to utilize the project "start/end date" and label the project using the prefix naming convention: Email Send Date, but it's not a clear indicator if this date needs to be modified for the requestor. And what's the point of the custom field then?
Please, please, please add this to the next release!!!
Hello Alicia Tso, welcome to the Community!
Thank you for sharing your use case, I can definitely see where you're coming from. I've passed it on to our team and we'll be sure to let you know if there are any updates in relation to this request 👍🏼
I, too, have a use-case I would like to add to this growing list. Our team releases multiple types of products and we all use Wrike a little bit differently - but one ideal feature we can all agree that we'd like to have sooner rather than later is this function where custom fields feeds a calendar.
We have so many dates involved in the production process - from multiple due dates, to manufacturing dates, shipping dates, arrival, in-hand, release dates - this function would save us having to create multiple tasks across many projects at a time. Seriously, this would help save us quite a bit of time and redundancy (as we use the custom fields tasks as an information capture anyhow). If there are any efforts being put towards this, please let us know!

Having the same issue. It's really annoying you can't get the custom date fields to show on a calendar.

Flexible calendar views = better product = higher DAU / WAU = better retention = less churn = more recurring revenue for wrike
Hi Alex Turney, thank you for supporing this idea, please rest assured that all your feedback is being passed on to our Product Team. I understand this is an important feature for your and your team and we will keep you updated in case any changes are implemented.
If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thank you!
Hello everyone,
looking for this feature on Wrike and google sent me here...so I suppose this is still not possible. In my case, I'm in the marketing department and I have tasks that are created for posting on social media and usually I have to add the task for the design, I approve it and I created an automation to send the completed design to my calendar folder as I was expecting to see in the calendar the publish date and not the due date for the design since it's the same task and has 3 date values (start, due and post) but I cant edit the calendar source so I can have a view of the posting dates. My workaround for this was to change the due date manually (since there is not an automation that can change the date either) and so I can see the post date.
I hope we can have this feature soon!

I'll throw my hat into this ring as well - our whole marketing and communications organization at our university is juuuuust starting to onboard to Wrike. One of the biggest uses for us is to simplify our current disparte projects and processes by having them under one roof - both from a project management perspective (what needs to be done - how do we get to the goal), AND from a planning and calendaring perspective (ie - creating an 'editorial calendar' that can give us a 10,000ft view of when our materials head out the door so that we know we're not stepping on each other).
Our plan was to create a calendar that pulls all custom item types name 'Stories' - which is do'able. We'd then have those projects show up on a calendar based off their "Publication date", which is a custom field we made. Calendars apparently only let us pull in Start/End dates for projects though.
For us from a story generation perspective, often time when we're done working on a project, and when it goes out the door are two separate things - which makes 'due date' slightly more problematic a field than just being able to showcase the one date. I think allowing custom fields that are dates be options for how your items appear on a calendar would be an enormously helpful tool in the long run - selfishly for teams like ours that are almost entirely focused on having a robust editorial calendar.
1+ on this suggestion from Vermont. :)
