Description and comments vs. logfile?

Hi,

I would love to see a possibility to create a kind of logfile within a given task.

i.e. a task running for three week which requires daily checks of "something" and the results need a short note within the description field, so that you can easily see (with one view) what the current status looks like.

I know it can be done with comments, but this section is simply overloaded with user x changed this and user y changed that... we write important things into the description. But we need to add day and user to have a proper overview.

This date/user info should be added by the system so that the user can focus on a quick entry.

i.e.

12.12.2016

no change, check done

user 123

------------

any other idea?

Hi Jörn! I've shared this idea with our team, thank you for all of the details! While adding logging functionality to the description field is not on our current roadmap, I do have a few suggestions which could potentially make it easier to track changes:
  • Create a task template with sections broken down by date. Under each date, add two checkboxes, such as "Changed" and "Checked". That way, the user making the updates can quickly specify what was done. If needed, they can also add their initials next to the update.
  • Create a task template with a table in the description field, which includes columns for "Date", "Update Type", and "Updated by". These will be quick to fill in and will help you keep track of updates in the future.
  • The task's revision history automatically tracks updates to the description field, including information about who made the changes.
Happy to hear about how other users track changes!

Hi Anastasia,

the table idea sounds great for me. I just tried it and it works in beta :-)

Any chance for formatting (like bold) in the table?

Jörn, I'm happy to hear that this idea works for you! At the moment it isn't possible to format table data in the same way as in the rest of the description field, but I've added your vote to the request. Thanks for your input on this! :)
