[Status: Not planned] Improve how Recurring tasks work
Greetings!
I must confess that of all the many, awesome features in Wrike, recurring tasks is probably the one I'm most underwhelmed by. One of the tools that we came from was Asana, which falls short in so many ways, but handles recurring tasks very well.
I was bummed the first time I created a recurring task and found that Wrike simply created a task for every single instance. There's one task that we do every month, for example, for the foreseeable future. First, I realized I couldn't simply have it recur indefinitely. Then, after setting it to 5 years, I realized I'd created this monster list which ate all the other tasks, visually.
I understand this would likely require back-end changes, but please consider changing how recurring tasks work. Here's a couple thoughts:
- Make it a single task marked as a recurring task (bringing things like description and comments to a single place)
- Allow for a task to recur indefinitely. Since it's just a single task, no problem!
- Instead of a task being daily or weekly or monthly or yearly, allow a user to define multiple recurrence rules, providing the flexibility for more bizarre schedules
Being a task attribute, I believe it would also lend itself to open support for recurring subtasks as well.
Hope this helps! :)
To add to the thought processes here. The limit of 60 recurrences is a bit ridiculous.. why?
We have recurring tasks that occur daily, or sometimes twice daily during the lifetime of a client, which is on average 4.8 years. So setting up our task management to handle these scenarios is hugely time consuming and impacting our margins.
Further, why are recurrent tasks unable to be edited in the same way that a normal task is? Why not either use the same editor, or, copy the template or base task?
All comments here are spot on. @stephanie, we've tried your suggestion of default status as deferred, but again, the scenario above created a mammoth management task and caused a great deal of missed deadlines and tasks and confusion in the team.
Hey everyone! I am a product owner at Wrike and I am now responsible for recurring work experience along with trial and admin experience. Based on feedback that we receive, we feel that improving recurrent tasks is a priority, and that is why we plan to release a new recurrence engine soon. The update will address many of the suggestions that were brought up here and in adjacent threads - thank you so much for your passion and candid feedback. It is much appreciated.
It is very important for my team and me to get first hand feedback on what we plan to release, so we will run a short closed beta program before the global rollout. I will post an update here in the upcoming weeks with instructions on how to get on private beta for those interested.
Hello! For everyone new to the thread, please check Anton's "Official Comment" from last week. It's visible directly under the first post in this thread. We'd love to hear what you think, please let us know :)
Stephanie,
Very glad to see this being addressed. Would've given a +1 if it were possible! Is there somewhere we can follow along with the progress of this?
@Emily Hi! Yes, this thread is the best place to monitor for updates. Anton and our Community team will make sure to keep things updated here.
Awesome! Told our account manager (Joel), we're extremely interested in the private beta.
Our agency does everything on a recurring bases, and the current tool (that is really just "duplicate tasks", not "recurring tasks"), causes issues for us every month. Since we're always losing track of random series when they wrap up.
Very excited that the recurrence engine (which is currently more of a duplication engine) is being fixed. We just joined Wrike and are feeling like our hands are tied on recurring tasks because we thought they would be straight forward and intuitive like other platforms (e.g. a simple recurring calendar event in Outlook, where you can modify the recurrent series or you can modify a single instance). We are now having to do workarounds and reminders to duplicate more instances, which was not what we had in mind.
We would be eager to join the beta!
Super excited for the beta to come out. Definitely going to pursue this option when available!
Great, thank you all! We'll make sure to keep you updated when we have more information about a beta program.
Hi everyone! Wrike product manager here. As promised above, we're starting the beta program for improved recurrence. If you want to participate and test it, our support team can turn it on for your account. You can either contact Support through https://help.wrike.com/hc/requests/new with a request, or comment on here and we will create a request for you. We made this change because of your feedback on this thread, so further feedback would be greatly appreciated, as we want to make sure the changes we've made work for you.
Pick me!
Please include me in the beta program. I will provide feedback for this test. Thanks much!!
Please add me to the beta, thanks
We'd love to get on the Beta! THANK YOU!!!!
Hi everyone, we're creating requests for everyone as they come in. You'll get an email confirmation once we create the request for you and you'll hear from our Support team. Definitely, let us know if you're interested :)
Please include me in your beta program.
Please include Showcase in your beta program. We are a 100-store national retailer who's just launched Wrike, so we are really able to test the limits of the system, as well as provide a useful and credible case study and reference.
VERY interested! Please add us!
We would like to join the beta. :)
Excited for the beta! Please add us!
Sign me on the beta program please :)
We would also like to sign up for the beta
We'd like to be included in the Beta too please, if you're still taking teams.
We would like to sign up for the beta
Where is best to leave feedback regarding the beta? We are trying (and loving!) it, and I'm collecting feedback from my team.
@Emily, we're really excited to hear your feedback! You can post it right in this thread. :)
We would love to participatie in the beta!
I'm currently testing Wrike for my team and the recurrence experience is a big stumbling block for us too. I'm just in the free trial at this point, but would love to have access to the beta to see if it will address the issue for our team. Happy to give feedback as well! :)
We'd love to participate in the beta program! Thanks!
I found it fail to add custom field for recurring task, I can only add custom field for each task, but not all series of them.
